We focus on enhancing situational awareness, tactical command and control, and seamless video data exchange capabilities within a dynamic, multi-domain environment.

Job Description
Ultra I&C is hiring a Senior Embedded Software Engineer in Tampa. The successful candidate will play a key role in shaping the software architecture and development of embedded solutions for security-critical platforms. This role will also provide mentorship to junior Embedded Software Engineers and may lead a team in technical execution. Occasional travel (approximately 5%) is required to support customer meetings and off-site development/testing.

Responsibilities:

  • Act as the senior engineer for mid-size projects, providing overall technical support and guidance to the software team
  • Support the technical design and development of embedded systems with the team
  • Perform trade studies and develop system architectures
  • Provide high-level design and allocate requirements to subsystems
  • Support creation of engineering documents for various contracts, including Software/Hardware Requirements Specifications (SHRS), Interface Requirements Specifications (IRS), Interface Control Documents (ICDs), and Software/Hardware Design Descriptions (SHDD)
  • Define unit, integration, and acceptance test plans
  • Perform configuration management for software development items
  • Support projects using both Agile and Waterfall methodologies
  • Provide written and oral progress updates
  • Support technical proposal development and level-of-effort estimation
  • Participate in process/tool improvements and drive quality initiatives
  • Mentor other engineers, providing guidance and coaching
  • Interact with customers for project status updates and requirements development
  • Stay current on new technologies beneficial to projects and the business
  • Pursue ongoing professional development and share knowledge with the team
  • Contribute positively to team productivity and engagement, ensuring timely and high-quality delivery of objectives
  • Understand business objectives, priorities, and company vision; proactively adjust team tasks to stay aligned with higher-level goals

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Active US Government Secret Security Clearance (U.S. citizenship required)
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 8+ years of applicable engineering experience
  • Hands-on embedded software development experience using C and/or Rust
  • Experience with embedded processors and SoC development
  • Hands-on integration experience with ARM-based systems and firmware

Preferred Skills and Qualifications :

  • 10+ years of applicable experience
  • Experience with OpenOCD and gdb
  • Proficiency in constrained Rust environments (no-std, heapless development)
  • Experience with AMD Zynq UltraScale+ MPSoC ZCU102 Evaluation Kit
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and negotiation skills with the ability to adapt across situations
  • Ability to visualize project outcomes, understand/manage risks, and think beyond immediate requirements
  • Effective presentation skills
  • Ability to develop short- to long-term integrated product development strategies that drive customer satisfaction
  • Strong coordination, organizational, and teaming skills
  • Familiarity with SEI CMMI tailored to small, agile development teams
  • Advanced knowledge of ANSI C and Python
  • Troubleshooting expertise in low-level embedded issues and memory management
  • Hands-on knowledge of software technologies, standards, processes, and metrics
  • Knowledge of NSA High Assurance Certification process (a plus)
  • Experience with Xilinx SoC development environments
  • Knowledge of relevant U.S. DoD developments and systems
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact with customers
  • Positive attitude, strong work ethic, and ability to lead complex technical tasks
