Job Tittle: Senior Cloud Database Administrator (AWS DBA (Aurora MySQL and MSSQL))

LOCATION: Remote (EST time zone, must travel to Columbus, GA/North Carolina quarterly)

We are seeking a skilled Cloud Database Administrator to assist in the migration of Microsoft SQL Server (MSSQL) databases to Amazon RDS and to provide maintenance and support for Aurora MySQL and MSSQL services. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with MSSQL, Aurora MySQL, and relevant AWS services, particularly in database migration, troubleshooting, and management. The DBA will be aligned with the Everwell product, where one area will be transitioning from an on-premises setup to a cloud-based RDS MSSQL solution and the other is already running on Aurora MySQL. This resource will assist with performance tuning, foreign key management, and schema management for both the migrated MSSQL solution and the existing Aurora MySQL solution. Additionally, they may support the refactoring of the database to address memory or performance issues and contribute to ongoing projects as required.

Key Responsibilities (related to the MySQL and MSSQL databases):

* Database Migration: Plan and execute the migration of MSSQL databases to Amazon RDS, with knowledge of both standard and custom MSSQL implementations

* Performance Optimization: Optimize database performance during and after migration, ensuring minimal downtime and high availability. Optimize existing Aurora MySQL RDS

* Data Validation: Use AWS Database Migration Service (DMS) to validate migrated data, ensuring data integrity and consistency

* Replication Setup: Configure replication for ongoing data synchronization between source and target databases

* Security Management: Implement security best practices for databases on AWS, including encryption, access control, and monitoring

* Monitoring and Troubleshooting: Improve and / or create and implement superb database production monitoring utilizing CloudWatch and Dynatrace. Diagnose and resolve issues related to database migration, configuration and / or performance

* Documentation: Maintain comprehensive documentation of migration processes, configurations, and best practices for both MSSQL and MySQL instances

* 10+ years of experience as an AWS DBA managing MSSQL and Aurora MySQL solutions, with proven expertise in managing large-scale databases in a production environment

* Previous experience with on-prem to AWS cloud migrations

* Strong understanding of relational database management systems and their principles.

* Extensive knowledge of ETL processes and the ability to troubleshoot issues with jobs not completing on time.

* Proficiency in leveraging SSIS/SQL

* Familiarity with batch processing, multi-layer SQL queries, and performance analysis on SQL processes

* Knowledge of industry best practices and emerging trends in AWS services and in Aurora MySQL and SQL Server database administration

* Ability to work independently and effectively prioritize and manage multiple tasks

* Attention to detail and strong organizational skills

Preferred Skills:

* Experience with DynamoDB

* Experience with Neptune

* Previous insurance industry experience

* Certifications: AWS Certified Database - Specialty or AWS Certified Solutions Architect

The annual salary for this position is between $99,000 - $112,000 depending on experience and other qualifications of the successful candidate.
