Compensation Grade: H96Compensation Details: Minimum: $18.00 - Maximum: $18.00 HourlyDepartment (OPH) WADS - Wadsworth CenterJob Description: Responsibilities The Hourly Laboratory Technician I will contribute to bioinformatic pipeline development and next generation sequencing projects (NGS) and analysis. The incumbent will be responsible for assisting with activities related to the surveillance, detection, and response to infectious diseases. The Hourly Laboratory Technician I will assist to develop Python or other codes to analyze bacterial sequences, plan experiments, evaluate clinical and environmental samples, design and perform validation studies, coordinate data reports, attend meetings and assist with related abstracts and manuscript drafts. This position will be part of a dynamic team serving the Wadsworth Center's mission in the New York State Department of Health's efforts to protect and promote the health of New York's citizens. Come be a part of Science in the Pursuit of Health! Minimum Qualifications Undergraduate or graduate student enrolled in a biological science. Preferred Qualifications Demonstrated knowledge of bioinformatics, experience coding in Python and understanding of bacterial genomics. Experience with Microsoft Office. Conditions of Employment Hourly, grant funded position expected to last through 8/22/2025. Compliance with funding requirements such as time and effort reporting, grant deliverables, and contract deliverables, is required. Valid and unrestricted authorization to work in the U.S. is required. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position. The selected candidate must reside within a reasonable commuting distance of the official work location specified in the job posting and must also be located in or willing to relocate to one of the following states: New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Vermont, or Massachusetts, prior to hire.
