Responsibilities
As the Knowledge Systems Lead, you will be responsible for overseeing the organization's knowledge management implementation, ensuring that information is effectively captured, organized, and shared across the Office of the Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Mission Integration (ODASD(MI)). This role requires a combination of technical proficiency, strong communication skills, and the ability to lead knowledge management initiatives. This position will be located in the Alexandria, VA area. Your essential job functions will include but may not be limited to:
- Develop and lead Mission Integration (MI) Division's Knowledge Systems Strategy that enhances the accessibility and usability of large-scale structured and unstructured data assets for implementation on unclassified and classified information systems.
- Implement taxonomy, metadata, and data catalog standards to improve discoverability and data trust.
- Facilitate and promote a culture of knowledge sharing and collaboration across various teams and departments.
- Lead knowledge system and management projects from planning to execution.
- Develop and manage training programs to enhance knowledge management skills across the organization.
- Ability to advise on implementation of Records Management guidance.
- Develop and manage governance structures to ensure compliance and standardization in knowledge management best practices.
- Develop, maintain, curate, and administer access for the content of knowledge management systems. Content includes data, models, architectures, and other mission engineering artifacts.
- Coordinate with Ecosystem lead to ensure equities are established by identifying, evaluating, and supporting implementation of knowledge management tools to enhance knowledge management implementation within unclassified and classified information systems.
- Coordinate with external organizations implementing similar knowledge management systems to determine Mission Integration equities, integration challenges, and potential future migration planning.
Qualifications
- 7+ years in Knowledge Systems, Knowledge Management, or Data Governance roles.
- Proven experience managing large, complex data ecosystems and distributed data sources.
- Experience working with structured and unstructured data across diverse platforms.
- Track record of developing and leading strategies for organizations with big data needs.
Desired Skills:
- Deep understanding of metadata management, data classification, data cataloging, and taxonomies.
- Hands-on knowledge of cloud data environments (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP)
- Knowledge of data architecture, data lakes, and data warehousing as they relate to knowledge graphs
- Proficient in data integration and accessibility strategies, APIs, and interoperability standards
- Experience developing, managing, and using SharePoint and other KM and/or tools
- Familiarity with APQC Knowledge Management best practices
- Experience in supporting technical and/or operational customers including interfacing with external stakeholders and senior government personnel.
- Engage and communicate effectively with executive leadership to align knowledge management initiatives with organizational goals.
- Experience providing strong organizational and communication skills including preparing presentations and other visualization forms to communicate results and artifacts to varied audiences.
- Experience maintaining configuration management on large and complex projects and developing and administering integrated data environments including cloud-based storage approaches.
- Project management experience to plan, execute, and oversee knowledge management projects.
- Certifications such as CKM, CDMP, or CIP.
Education Requirements:
- Bachelor's in Information Science, Data Science, Knowledge Management, Computer Science, or related field
Clearance Requirements:
- Active Top Secret clearance with SCI Eligibility.
- U.S. Citizenship is required for this position.
