Job Title: Machine Learning Engineer

DRC is seeking a data-savvy Machine Learning Engineer with demonstrated ability to contribute to the advancement of DRC's Education Data Science initiatives. The Machine Learning Engineer will support DevOps efforts on a growing technology team and help build scalable, serverless, cloud-based systems that power education learning analytics. As part of an interdisciplinary team, you will also help investigate, develop, and optimize AI models for advanced analytical products and solutions. A successful candidate will have a strong background in cloud-native architecture, ETL development, and infrastructure automation. The ideal candidate will have 3+ years of experience in software engineering roles with a focus on Amazon Web Services (AWS), serverless computing, and CI/CD automation.

Essential Position Responsibilities:

• Design, implement, and manage cloud-based infrastructure using AWS, with a strong emphasis on serverless computing (such as Lambda, DynamoDB, S3).
• Build and maintain robust ETL pipelines that support the ingestion, transformation, and delivery of educational assessment data.
• Develop and manage CI/CD pipelines to support application deployment and automated testing and model evaluation.
• Collaborate with data scientists, psychometricians, and software engineers to support ML workflows and ensure scalable infrastructure for research and analytics.
• Implement best practices for infrastructure security, monitoring, logging, and reliability.
• Continuously evaluate and adopt new tools and frameworks to improve system performance and developer productivity.

Required Qualifications:

• 3+ years of professional experience in DevOps, Cloud Engineering, or Software Development.
• Advanced experience with Amazon Web Services (such as Lambda, S3, CloudFormation, Step Functions, ECS).
• Proven expertise in building and maintaining ETL pipelines and data workflows.
• Proficiency in scripting and automation using tools like Python, Bash, Groovy or Node.js.
• Experience with CI/CD tools (such as Jenkins, GitHub Actions, Azure Devops) and infrastructure as code (such as CloudFormation, Serverless, Terraform).
• Experience with monitoring and observability tools (such as CloudWatch).

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience in applying Machine Learning/ Data Science/ Statistical techniques
• Associates or Bachelor's in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related technical field.
• Familiarity with modern machine learning practices and frameworks (such as TensorFlow, PyTorch)
• Hands-on experience working with large language models (such as OpenAI)
• Understanding of the unique challenges and requirements of educational assessment data
