Overview

Altorfer Power Systems is seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Buyer to join our Packaging Division, which specializes in the manufacturing and assembly of custom generator set packages. The Buyer is responsible for sourcing and procuring a wide range of components, fabricated parts, and materials necessary for the timely and cost-effective completion of packaging projects. This role plays a critical part in supporting operations by ensuring materials are available when needed and supplier performance is consistently aligned with project and production demands.



Basic Duties

    Source, negotiate, and purchase materials, components, and services to support the production of generator set packages.
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Project Management, Production, and Supply Chain to understand project requirements and bill of material (BOM) needs.
  • Develop and maintain strong vendor relationships, ensuring quality, delivery, and cost performance standards are met.
  • Monitor supplier delivery schedules and expedite or reschedule orders as needed to avoid production delays.
  • Evaluate quotes and supplier capabilities to make informed sourcing decisions.
  • Track inventory levels to avoid shortages or overstock situations; align purchasing activity with inventory goals.
  • Issue and manage purchase orders in the ERP system; resolve discrepancies related to price, quantity, or delivery.
  • Support continuous improvement efforts in procurement processes, lead time reduction, and cost control initiatives.
  • Communicate regularly with internal stakeholders regarding order status, delivery concerns, and potential supply risks.
  • Monitor and report supplier performance metrics.


Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate's degree in Business or related field is a plus.
  • Minimum of 3 years of general office or administrative experience required; experience in bookkeeping, accounting, or purchasing support roles is highly desirable.
  • Working knowledge of procurement principles and basic inventory control is preferred.
  • Ability to learn and interpret bills of materials and technical documents with support from engineering.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook); experience with ERP/MRP systems is a plus.
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Effective communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Willingness to work in a team-oriented manufacturing environment.

Salary Range: $20 to $25 per hour

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions

Work is normally performed indoors with moderate noise conditions. Physical requirements may include speaking, listening, writing, typing, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting, carrying, sitting for extended periods, and managing stress. Occasionally required to walk or stand for short durations on manufacturing floors. Job hazards may include tripping, slipping, falling, hand injuries. Required to follow all safety protocols and wear appropriate personal protective equipment depending on the environment or location. Noise level in the office environment is usually moderate to low. Must be flexible to work varying schedules and hours as needed.
