GENERAL ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

WAVE is currently looking for a Tooling Maintenance Manager to join our team!

The Tooling Maintenance Manager is responsible for leading the tooling department in the support of the business operating plan, including a focus on quality, cost, delivery requirements and world-class performance in safety. This leader should be able to positively manage a diverse and skilled workforce by focusing on talent development and succession planning. This position will develop key short-term performance goals, and partner with various resources to develop solutions to meet customer needs and improve internal processes to enhance the total customer experience and lower manufacturing costs. Most importantly, this person must create a culture that embraces change and focuses on continuous improvements.

This position is responsible for safe and effective leadership of approximately (12) toolmakers and (2) roll tooling specialists in the Aberdeen WAVE facility. The Tooling Manager reports directly to the Engineering and Capital Project Manager.

KEY PROCESSES (Ownership/Participation):

  • Supports and demonstrates the WAVE Philosophy and Operating Principles in all activities.
  • Provides safety leadership using WAVE's 8-Step Safety Process to manage safety on a daily basis.
  • Serves as coach, developer, and trainer for the team by overseeing the predictive and preventive maintenance for press tooling, modules, and fixtures
  • Facilitate Tool & Die Department shift changeover meetings from night to day shifts and day shifts to afternoon shifts, covering safety, quality, delivery, and cost.
  • Administering fair and honest mid-year and annual performance reviews to each team member.
  • Work with the team to develop and maintain a work order system (CMMS/L2L) that gives the EE's clear targets and metrics to gauge their personal performance but also helps us identify our biggest areas for improvements in tooling cost and downtime reduction.
  • Drives Process Improvement, LEAN and SMED concepts by working with engineering and WCT for tooling design changes, process improvements, and implement those changes in the facility to optimize tooling performance.
  • Assist the team in defining and revising Standard Work practices.
  • Assists in preparation of annual budget requests for tooling, prepares capital budget requests and submits for management approval.
  • Manage the hourly Employee payroll duties (ADP) and support our EE attendance policy and procedures through the disciplinary action plan for time missed.
  • Administers discipline where appropriate. Develop action plans, in conjunction with employees, for performance improvement.
  • Maintain the Aberdeen tooling inventory and manage monthly tooling budget for usage.
  • Lead the annual Physical Inventory event in November with the support of the plant controller.
  • Assist in interviewing potential applicants for all positions within WAVE. Assists HR in the selection process. Provides general departmental induction and works with HR to ensure proper on-boarding and training.
  • Support the maintenance team on capital projects as needed, along with machining parts for equipment during breakdowns.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with outside and internal tooling vendors.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Bachelor's Degree or 1-3 years related experience in supervisory/leadership roles preferred.
  • Functional experience in Tooling required.
  • Roll forming experience preferred
  • Ability to multitask and pivot as needed to successfully work in a high-pressure, fast paced environment to meet customer demand
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, and Word)
