Job Title: Database Architect II - Postgres
Clearance Required: Public Trust - Federal Client requires US Citizenship
Work Location: Remote, Arlington, VA

Alpha Omega is seeking a qualified Database Architect II - Postgres for a remote position on a Federal program in Arlington, Virginia.

Key Responsibilities:



  • Responsible for designing, creating, and managing large-scale databases used to store and organize vast amounts of digital information. Possess expertise in database technologies, data modeling, and information management. They work closely with organizations to understand their data requirements, ensuring that databases are structured efficiently, securely, and in a way that facilitates optimal performance.
  • As a PostgreSQL architect you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and managing the infrastructure and database systems using PostgreSQL.
  • Participate in daily stand-ups, bi-weekly sprint planning, and sprint retrospectives for the team
  • Participate in root cause analysis and blameless post-mortems
  • Provide competent leadership and highly specialized/technical guidance to complex Database Administration challenges.
  • Has detailed specialized experience in recent or rare technologies.
  • Simultaneously plan, manage, and provide technical oversight for other database administrators.
  • Work in cross functional domain of data analyst and database administrator.
  • Supports users by resolving problems with application databases.
  • Provide direction to junior Database Administrators.
  • Coordinate with the Program Manager and Assistant Program Manager to ensure problem resolution and customer satisfaction.
  • Provide expert support for production application databases with respect to availability, reliability, and integrity.
  • Work with application developers and their logical data models, create physical application database designs which conform to industry standards (e.g., data normalization), optimize performance and efficiently utilize disk space, size tables and indexes for production implementation based on projected row counts provided by applications.
  • Create complex new databases and application database objects (e.g., tables, indexes, procedures), and as requirements change, update data structures/objects in existing databases.
  • Coordinate production database deployment including tasks to promote database objects between environments (e.g., test to production) in support of application requirements.
  • Provide technical leadership to Application developers in database capabilities and features, build efficient queries, database design, application database Problem resolution, and the use of database utilities.
  • Determine and implement appropriate application database backup and recovery strategies, including decisions regarding frequency of backup and procedures for recovering application database Changes.
  • Perform production database recovery when necessary.



Required Qualifications:

Education:



  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent field


Experience/Skills:



  • Federal Client requires US Citizenship.
  • At least 5 years' experience architecting PostgreSQL
  • Advanced knowledge of networking concepts, object-oriented technology, data warehousing, and relational database engines (e.g., Oracle, SQL Server).
  • Advanced proficiency in analytical, project planning, negotiating, interpersonal, and communication skills (written and oral).
  • Excellent Oral and Written communication skills
  • Knowledge in implementing and managing DevOps tools such as GitHub ES,
  • Experience in React.js and its core principles such as React patterns, state management libraries (such as Flux or Redux), Props drilling, data sharing among React components
  • Knowledge in Azure cloud monitoring tools, application performance monitoring tools, and operational dash-boarding
  • Experience with Azure solutions such as App Services, App Insights, Storage Accounts, Resource Groups, and monitoring tools, etc.
  • Ensure SLA's & operational KPI's are met, working as necessary with internal and external support functions when major incidents occur.


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Worked in an agile environment as part of an agile product team


Salary and Benefit Information:

The likely salary range for this position is $88,501 - $110,000. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. There are multiple factors that are considered in determining final pay for a position, including, but not limited to, relevant work experience, skills, certifications and competencies that align to the specified role, education and certifications as well as contract provisions regarding labor categories that are specific to the position and could fall outside of this range.
