General Responsibilities:

The Software Supplier Quality Engineer (SW-SQE) will be part of the Software Quality Assurance (SWQA) Group and will work directly with outsourced vendors and subcontractors (hereinafter referred to as suppliers) to ensure that software components and services meet the required quality standards by conducting audits and assessments and collaborating with suppliers to identify and resolve potential quality issues. The SW-SQE will act as a liaison between the software development team, SWQA members, and suppliers to communicate quality concerns and risks in a timely manner.

The primary role of the SW-SQE is to develop a management plan for suppliers in accordance with requirements, track supplier progress, and manage issues and change requests based on the agreed upon requirements. This role will participate in supplier selection and evaluation, assessing potential vendors based on their technical capabilities, quality systems, and compliance with relevant standards. The SW-SQE will be responsible for reviewing supplier documentation including design documents, test plans, and reports to ensure compliance with project requirements. The SW-SQE will regularly monitor supplier performance and collaborate with suppliers to drive continuous improvement.

The candidate should also have the skills and ability to cover process quality assurance activities if required. This would include monitoring the quality of the project internally through activities such as process audits, work-product reviews, defect management, release judgements, functional safety measures, and cyber security measures.

Job Responsibilities:

Includes the following (other duties may be documented and assigned by local management and some duties may not apply dependent upon the requirements of the position at each specific Astemo site and/or the strengths of the employee and the needs of the company):

  • Participate in the supplier selection and qualification process
  • Educate and verify the suppliers' understanding and application of design requirements, statement of work, specifications, automotive, ASPICE, customer, and Astemo standards
  • Ensure the suppliers' practices and procedures are consistent with Astemo standards
  • Monitor and communicate the overall status of software suppliers work, ensuring project timing is met, and quickly raise any risks that may affect project quality or timing
  • Establish an annual supplier audit plan, perform required audits and/or assessments, and follow-up on corrective actions resulting from audits
  • Monitor supplier performance metrics such as defect rates, on-time delivery, and adherence to quality standards
  • Set supplier KPI targets and establish a consolidated supplier scorecard to be reported annually
  • Drive quality improvements with suppliers based on KPI performance and scoring
  • Review supplier documentation and work products to ensure compliance with project requirements
  • Prevent recurrence of quality problems by implementing corrective measures
  • Identify and document areas for improvement in supplier processes
  • Liaise with suppliers and internal teams (project leaders, developers, and quality assurance engineers) to ensure collaboration and clear communication
  • Conduct regular meetings with suppliers and design team members
  • Prepare and distribute reports summarizing the status of supplier quality, cost, and delivery
  • Review requirements, specifications and technical design documents to provide timely and meaningful feedback
  • Audit all aspects of the SDLC and usage of ALM tool sets

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will have the following:

  • Strong understanding of software development methodologies and testing practices
  • Ability to review technical documents and identify potential quality risks
  • Technical knowledge of programming languages (Embedded C, C++) and software architecture
  • Experience in industry assessment standards (CMMI, ASPICE, etc.)
  • ASPICE Provisional Assessor certification or higher
  • Familiarity with AUTOSAR, ISO26262 (Functional Safety), ISO/SAE 21434 (Cybersecurity)
  • Experience with quality tools common in the automotive industry (5Y, 8D, MISRA, etc.)
  • Experience with Quality Management Systems (QMS)
  • Knowledge of IATF16949 and automotive customer specific requirements
  • Experience with electronic control systems
  • Keen eye for detail and a commitment to excellence
  • Team oriented with the ability to bring people together and drive results
  • Strong organizational, problem solving, and analytical abilities
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills
  • Strong computer skills including MS Office
  • Ability to manage priorities and workflow independently

Education: Bachelors degree in Quality Engineering. Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related technical area.

Experience: Minimum of 2-5 years experience

Job level determined by various factors such as organization size, responsibility, career stage, and capabilities.

Supervisory Responsibilities: N/A

Working conditions:

  • Physical Demands: Required to sit or stand for long periods of time. The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  • Travel: Domestic and international travel to supplier facilities will be required. Occasional travel to global Astemo locations may be required.
