About the opportunity

SWCA is seeking a strategic and team-oriented Vice President of Marketing and Communications to lead our dynamic marketing function into its next chapter of growth and innovation. This strategic leadership role will oversee the full scope of SWCA's Marketing Department, including Marketing & Pursuit Resources, Marketing Communications & Creative Services, and Marketing Systems & Data Management.

As VP, you'll be responsible for designing and executing a holistic, forward-thinking strategy that integrates branding, marketing, and pursuit operations to enhance our market presence, deepen client relationships, and expand market share. You'll lead a diverse range of marketing and communication initiatives across multiple channels to elevate SWCA's brand, amplify our story, and support enterprise-wide growth.

Beyond external positioning, this role plays a key part in shaping internal communications and cultivating a strong, cohesive company culture-ensuring our mission and values are reflected both within and outside the organization.

This is a full-time, salaried leadership position with a comprehensive benefits package. The role offers flexibility and can be based anywhere in the United States as a distributed or hybrid (in-office) position. Candidates should be prepared for 10-15% travel, with preference given to those located near a major airport or within reasonable proximity to an SWCA office to support travel needs.

What you will accomplish

Reporting to SWCA's Chief Growth Officer, this position will:

  • Deliver visionary marketing leadership and strategic guidance, aligned with SWCA's goals and objectives.
  • Partner with and support the Marketing leadership team to hire, manage, mentor, and develop staff across the department, fostering a collaborative and supportive environment that prioritizes shared success, growth, and team cohesion.
  • Stay current on marketing trends, and competitor intelligence to keep SWCA at the forefront of the industry.
  • Develop and manage department budgets effectively.
  • Drive continuous improvement of the marketing team to increase efficiencies, develop new capabilities, and provide excellent service to internal clients.
  • Establish both short and long-term strategic marketing strategies, and associated tactics, to better tell SWCA's story to both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Define and implement the overall brand strategy, including the management of social media, website, and digital presence.
  • Provide overall leadership for pursuits and the proposal process, ensuring the development of compelling, client-focused proposals that align with SWCA's strategic objectives and market positioning.
  • Oversee internal and external communications, including public relations, to ensure consistent messaging and alignment with SWCA's values and goals.
  • Oversee creative services, including graphic design, videos, collateral and SWCA's image library.
  • Enhance SWCA's brand position in the market and serve as brand ambassador to ensure adherence to brand standards.
  • Partner in leading integrative marketing approaches for mergers and acquisitions.
  • Act as a marketing and communications thought leader and advisor to the Senior Leadership Team and CEO.
  • Gain the confidence and trust of others through SWCA's core values: Always Learning, OneSWCA, Never Settle, and Gives Back.

Experience and qualifications for success

  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Business, Communications, Public Relations, or a related field.

  • Minimum of 15 years of progressive experience in marketing and/or marketing communications, including at least 5 years in a senior leadership role.

  • Proven success in developing and executing strategic marketing plans that drive business objectives.

  • Strong track record of inspiring and leading teams across all levels of an organization through a collaborative approach that effectively engages senior executives, cross-functional departments, and staff.

  • Exceptional communication skills-written, verbal, interpersonal, and presentation.

  • Demonstrated ability to build, lead, and develop high-performing teams in dynamic environments.

  • Highly motivated self-starter with the ability to navigate complex organizations and effectively engage with a diverse range of stakeholders.

Preferred qualifications

  • Master's degree in related field strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated success in a similar or relevant industry.
  • Exceptional understanding of the environmental consulting market, including clients, services, and competitive dynamics.
  • Experience successfully leading a fully distributed/remote team.
  • Broad marketing experience across all marketing and communications disciplines.
  • Able to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.

For individuals based in the USA, this USA-based position can expect an annual salary of $168,997.92-$219,928.80. Actual pay within this range may depend on experience, qualifications, geographic location, client requirements where applicable, and other factors permitted by law. Regular-status employees are also eligible for performance bonuses.
