Job Overview

Hubbell's Connectors Business Unit in Leeds, AL is looking for a Sr. Associate Design Engineer who wants to grow with us as we grow! As part of the Design Engineering team, this position will focus on Medium/High Voltage connectors and fiber optic products/accessories, will lead and participate in new product development for distribution, substation, transmission, and communication market products. This role will also lead the commercialization process of new products from idea generation through product launch.

A Day In The Life

  • Manage New Product Development projects in the area of Medium/High Voltage and Communications market connectors.
  • Use 3D modeling software to design products and components
  • Input and track associate parts required for design and generate a BOM including dollar amounts.
  • Work with marketing team members to assess customer feedback and align customer feedback to product development.
  • Create, develop and evaluate new product design concepts following ANSI, IEC, IEEE, and Telcordia standards.
  • Conduct design for manufacturability events.
  • Coordinate and perform experiments to test and verify product design.
  • Track progress and action items for ongoing design projects.
  • Participate in Kaizen improvement events.
  • Document request for capital expenditures and present request to management
  • Assist in troubleshooting and root cause failure analysis for product enhancement.
  • Attend seminars and conferences to be up-to-date on connector technology

What will help you thrive in this role?

  • 3+ years of prior Engineering work experience in part/product design
  • Experience in FEA, Solid Modeling (Autodesk Inventor or other 3D modeling tool), and rapid prototyping
  • Experience and knowledge in testing and/or product development.
  • Experience and knowledge in DFMA
  • Strong mechanical design background using strength of materials
  • Strong hands-on experience working with tools and test lab equipment
  • Possess strong written and oral communication skills
  • Experience in Injection Molded Part and Tool Design helpful
