Translational Medicine (TM) at Genentech leads the development and execution of innovative biomarker and diagnostic strategies to support clinical development across all phases of the portfolio and conducts foundational, disease-oriented translational research to maximize scientific and clinical impact.

We are seeking a Senior/ Principal Business Manager to enable this mission by leading the planning, execution, and continuous improvement of high-impact forums that support TM's scientific and strategic priorities. This role will focus primarily on the Translational Medicine Review Forum (TMRF) and technology-focused initiatives, both of which are essential to advancing biomarker strategies, aligning translational research efforts, and ensuring strong cross-functional execution.

In this role, you will partner with Translational Medicine leadership and scientific teams to shape meeting objectives, guide content development, and ensure that discussions are well-structured, outcomes are clear, and meeting follow-up is executed. You will be accountable for the operational infrastructure-building and refining processes, aligning timelines, and ensuring visibility across TM and partner functions.

This is a high-impact, high-visibility role requiring strong judgment, operational discipline, and the ability to influence and collaborate across scientific and organizational boundaries.

The Opportunity:

As a valuable member on the Translational Medicine team you will be:

  • Leading the planning and execution of TM's strategic forums (e.g., TMRFs, technology forums, others), ensuring each is purpose-driven, well-structured, and aligned with organizational goals.

  • Partnering with TM leaders to shape meeting agendas, guide strategic framing, and prepare content that enables clear, high-impact decision-making.

  • Providing expert guidance on governance processes, including approval paths and stakeholder alignment, to streamline and elevate scientific dialogue.

  • Serving as the strategic owner of TMRF and Technology team operations, including meeting flow, stakeholder engagement, documentation of outcomes, and follow-through on key decisions.

  • Developing and refine tools, templates, and processes that drive operational excellence, consistency, and continuous improvement across TM.

  • Acting as a strategic connector across TM and governance committees (e.g., RRC, DBs, ESPC, LSPC), ensuring alignment across interdependent efforts.

  • Owning the strategic planning calendar and forum cadence, ensuring coordination with enterprise-wide planning cycles and milestones.

  • Facilitating timely, effective communication before, during, and after critical meetings, including pre-reads, summaries, and follow-up materials.

  • Monitoring and evolving the effectiveness of strategic operations through stakeholder feedback and best practice sharing.

Who You Are

  • Degree in life sciences or engineering required; an advanced degree and/or relevant work experience in a related field is preferred.

  • You bring 10+ years of experience in strategic operations, program management, or portfolio leadership-ideally in a scientific, translational research, or R&D environment.

  • You are highly effective at navigating complex organizations and aligning diverse stakeholders around shared goals.

  • You're a strategic thinker and structured planner with excellent judgment and a bias for action.

  • You are confident engaging with senior leaders, facilitating discussions, and influencing across levels.

  • You communicate with clarity and precision, and you know how to translate scientific and strategic input into actionable outcomes.

  • You have a strong understanding of translational science or scientific operations, and a passion for enabling science through operational excellence.
    Experience with collaboration and planning tools like Google Workspace, Smartsheet, and SharePoint is preferred.

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of California for Senior Business Manager is $144,000- $267,400 and Principal Business Manager is $156,500-$290,700. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance. This position also qualifies for the benefits detailed at the link provided below.
