This position is located at the RTS Operations Center in Huntsville, Alabama.

Essential Functions
  • Assist with plans, process and design to continually move towards cleaner, mature, and secure code that fulfills mission requirements and implements new features as the mission evolves.
  • Provide hands-on work as a senior software engineer.
  • Provide leadership, management, technical and professional direction to the Software Engineering team working with the Project Leads.
  • Lead the Software Engineering team in the implementation and application of current architectures, methodologies, and best-practices.
  • Provide career guidance, development, and support to employees.
  • Proactively anticipate and identify upcoming project risks, development impediments, and intra-team issues. Implement mitigations and solutions to resolve these issues before the Software Engineering team is impacted.
  • Communicate with the team for employee engagement, performance management, employee rewards and recognition, and resolving personnel issues.
  • Maintain a team-owned, flexible, continuously improving software process.
  • Coordinate with software engineers, testers, configuration management, system engineering, cyber, and other teams to facilitate system integration, verification and validation, and operational success.
  • Work closely with the Communications Systems Manager, Chief Engineer, and managers of other engineering disciplines to accomplish team goals.
  • Provide presentations and communicate technical information to senior management, government, and Reagan Test Site (RTS) customers.
  • Provide project planning, estimates, and cost accounting.
  • Coordinate with Cyber Assurance to identify and resolve Risk Management Framework (RMF) findings.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Required Skills
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of Configuration Management.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of Software Engineering, including best-practices, application lifecycles, and Agile software methodologies.
  • Demonstrated ability to build consensus among peers and have effective relationships with team members.
  • Microsoft PowerPoint, Excel, Word proficient.
  • Microsoft Project, SharePoint, Teams proficiency.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present complex technical information in a clear and concise manner to a variety of audiences.
  • Ability to work independently as a forward thinker and self-starter.
  • Ability to work in a collaborative, multi-discipline environment to produce deliverable products.
  • Ability to multitask effectively and handle disruptions and changes.
  • Ability to create various formal documentation, including process, requirements, design, and Verification and Validation (V&V) documents.
  • Familiarity with Risk Management Framework (RMF).
  • Proficient in Object Oriented design and programming.
  • Proficient with Linux OS.
  • Agile development methods, Scrum, and Kanban.
  • Multiple programming languages in a work environment.
  • Any of the following tools and technologies: Atlassian tools (FishEye+Crucible, JIRA, GitLab), VS Code, SourceForge, Forge.mil, databases (e.g. MySQL, sqlite, Oracle), svn, git, virtual machines (e.g. VMWare).
Required Experience
  • Bachelor of Science in Software Engineering or another STEM related discipline.
  • Eight (8) or more years of experience in STEM-related positions including experience in Software Engineering using object-oriented languages.
  • Related experience as Team Lead or Technical Supervisor.
  • DoD Approved 8570 Baseline Certification (e.g. Security+ ce) within six months of hire.
  • DoD Approved 8570 Computing Environment (e.g. Linux +ce) within 12 months of hire.

Additional Eligibility Qualifications

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret security clearance which requires U.S. Citizenship.
  • Must be able to travel to Kwajalein Atoll in the Marshall Islands a minimum of once/year if needed.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. passport.
  • The flexibility to work occasional non-duty hours or on weekends to support specific project or mission requirements.
