The Drug Metabolism & Pharmacokinetics (DMPK) department is dedicated to enabling the discovery, development and commercialization of safe and effective medicines by elucidating the mechanisms of absorption, distribution, metabolism, and excretion of synthetic molecule drug candidates. Bioanalysis, as one of the major functional groups in DMPK, is responsible for quantitatively measuring drug molecules in pre-clinical and clinical studies throughout drug discovery and development, and works in close partnership with various departments outside of DMPK.

The Opportunity

The candidate for the System Specialist position will be involved in the following activities as part of their role:

  • Identifies, evaluates, implements and optimizes automated systems and process technologies to increase data generating/reporting quality and efficiency

  • Strong domain knowledge of bioanalytical science, independently perform bioanalytical laboratory assay development and transfer on automated systems (Hamilton liquid handling systems)

  • Proactively works with users in the maintenance and trouble-shooting of various robotic equipment and systems

  • Provides guidance to new users on design and transfer of assays to automated systems

  • Participates in cross-functional teams as a bioanalytical representative to evaluate/implement new automated or data management systems

  • Work closely with vendors while maintaining a strong focus on efficiency improvements

  • May participate in bioanalytical support for various drug discovery projects

Who You Are

  • B.A/B.S (5+ years relevant experience) or MS (3+ years relevant experience) in Chemistry, Biochemistry or engineering disciplines or equivalent experience

  • Experience with a proven record in automation, programming, data management, and /or process management

  • Experience operating, programming, and integrating automation instrumentation and peripherals including but not limited to liquid handling platforms (e.g. Hamilton Vantage, Hamilton Star)

  • Ability to work independently to prioritize effectively and work collaboratively

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills to document assay implementation, trouble-shooting and internal/external presentations

Preferred

  • Understanding of bioanalysis and designing high throughput plate-based assays

  • Biological sample extraction for synthetic molecules using various types of extraction methods

  • LC-MS/MS quantitative analysis of synthetic molecules

  • Knowledge programming languages such as Python/C# is a plus

  • Experience with integrating accessory labware like centrifuges to Hamilton systems is a plus

Relocation benefits are available for this posting.

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of California is $91,900 to $170,700. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance. This position also qualifies for the benefits detailed at the link provided below.
