We are seeking aMechanical Leadresponsible for managing the upkeep and troubleshooting of Research and Pilot scale bioreactors, auxiliary equipment, and the safe fabrication and modification of equipment needed for research experimentation. The candidate will successfully maintain area documentation and lead the training of mechanical education for staff members. Responsibilities:
- Equipment Maintenance:The primary role in our development lab involves troubleshooting mechanical issues and completing preventative/predictive maintenance on equipment.
- Use basic hand and power tools and shop equipment competently.
- Daily Tasks:Stay up to date on parts inventory, ordering, and communication with staff utilizing the facility. Test equipment to ensure functionality, schedule equipment and facility needs for the Instrumentation and Engineering group and operate the Facility Decontamination Unit and Large-Scale Vessels.
- Assisting the facility manager regarding contractor operations to ensure they meet IFF standards and expectations. You must be comfortable inspecting the work of the contractors and directing any improvements in services.
- Shift Work:Our lab operates continuously 24/7, organized into three shifts. This position is specifically for our day shift (Monday - Friday), but flexibility is preferred.
- Communication:Successful candidates must communicate effectively both face-to-face and across electronic tools. We utilize paperless documentation for experimental records and cross-shift communication.
- Safety:Safety is a culture, not just a goal. The successful candidate will generate SOPs, perform safety evaluations of new processes and equipment, effectively utilize personal protective equipment, be able to lift 50 lbs, and pass a respirator fit test (pulmonary function test).
Qualifications: Education:
- Associates Degree with 3+ years of piloting or manufacturing experience.
- HS Diploma/GED w/5+ years piloting/manufacturing experience.
- 2+ years of experience in an industrial maintenance, trade school, technical institute or related environment
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
- Mechanically Inclined - Working knowledge of pumps, conveyors, pipe fittings. Understanding Multiple types of Fittings (VCO, NPT, BPT, Swaglok, Serto)
- Must have experience with maintenance and repair duties including the adjustment and alignment of all types of pumps, fluid machinery, valves, pneumatic systems, steam systems, solid material processing and handling equipment.
- Ability to wear job-specific personal protective equipment (PPE)
- Ability to operate computers and other computerized control systems
- Proficient in Microsoft Suite applications
- Experience in operating fermentation equipment, Biotech Piloting Scale Operations, and/or Operating Equipment Utilizing Pressure/Steam
- Experience Ordering Process Specific Parts
- Following all site safety and environmental policies. Including but not limited to completing safe work permits, following lifesaving principles, and adhering to PPE requirements.
- Experience of working with chemicals and hazardous operations
- Ability to work with multidisciplinary teams across multiple projects.
- Willing and able to make, lift, and deliver maximal 50 lbs of materials to the facility and other labs with or without reasonable accommodations.
- Candidates must have strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to react to issues and emergencies.
