JOB SUMMARY:

Under the supervision of the Pharmacy management team, the Pharmacy Technician Supervisor will oversee the work of the Pharmacy Technicians that assist Pharmacists with the dispensing of medical prescriptions. Monitors daily activities and manages work schedules to ensure that quality, production, and customer service standards are maintained. Will train and evaluate new employees. Makes day to day decisions within or for the Pharmacy department and has some authority for personnel actions in conjunction with Pharmacy management. Must have thorough knowledge of department processes. Will report to the Director of Pharmacy.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Procures and distributes drug orders per physician request, pharmacist request or prearranged work assignment according to established policies, procedures and protocols, and within specified time frame.
  1. Maintains a working knowledge of all aspects in pharmacy services, including but not limited to: Drug names and classification, medication order and prescription interpretation, prescription computer order entry, pharmaceutical calculations, medication error prevention methods.
  1. Knowledgeable of lawsa, rules and regulations that govern the practice of pharmacy.
  2. Maintains a working knowledge of the general chemical and physical properties of drugs handled in the pharmacy department. This includes but is not limited to, identifying medications that are light sensitive, requires refrigeration, are caustic, or poisonous. Is able to use reference books to locate stability information or material safety data sheets.
  1. Carries out the calculations required for the usual dosage determinations and solutions preparation using weight and volume equivalents in both the metric and apothecary systems.
  1. Issues controlled substances to patient care areas and maintains records as required by law. Collects data, conducts inspections and maintains logs and other documentation as assigned.
  1. Travel to offsite locations may be required.
  2. Ability to adapt to changing priorities, including handling frequent interruptions and changes in workload and work schedule.
  3. Good interpersonal skills and ability to work cooperatively with hospital and pharmacy staff.
  4. Effective verbal and written communications skills.
  5. Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. High School diploma or GED.
  2. Technical School, 2 Years College or associate's degree preferred.
  3. Certified & registered Pharmacy Technician by the Texas State Board of Pharmacy.
  4. 3-5 years' experience as a Pharmacy Technician.
  5. Sterile Compunding and Aseptic Technique Certfication is required (or must be obtained within 12 months from date of hire)
  6. Continued employment is contingent on successfully maintaining current required certification(s) and/or license(s).
    1. Annual Requirements: Demonstrating knowledge and Competency of USP 797 Core Skills
    2. Knowledge of the principles, practices and procedures of Pharmacy.
    3. Ability to follow written and oral instructions and to learn prescribed routine procedures.
    4. Ability to set priorities, make critical decisions and respond quickly to emergency requests.
    5. Ability to maintain harmonious and effective working relationships with other employees and respond to

    general public complaints.

    12.Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing.

    13.Participation in Local, State and National Pharmacy Organization to acquire/improve Competency
