The Controls Engineer will lead automation projects and support other projects for our Data Solutions business with strong electrical and controls focus that align with strategic goals. This will include system design, system modification and fine tuning, capital expenditure projects, equipment troubleshooting support, and other projects to support Data Solutions.
WHAT YOU WILL EXPERIENCE IN THIS POSITION:
- Design and implement control systems for manufacturing processes, including electrical design, PLC programming, HMI development, and SCADA systems.
- Design and implement product tracking systems including MES integration using tools including but not limited to PLCs, SCADA, Vision Systems, ERP Systems, and Databases.
- Propose and implement equipment upgrades and optimizations to support reliability and efficiency.
- Use strong electrical and controls automation skills to develop technical requirements for outside vendors to bid and construct custom machines and control systems.
- Support production with advanced troubleshooting and repairs.
- Formulate and run projects that align with organizational goals such as safety, productivity, and cost savings.
- As a project leader, develop a complete project plan including resources, costs, benefits and schedule; assume full responsibility for the project to ensure it meets goals and schedule; communicate project status to partners as appropriate; and follow up to ensure project results are sustained.
- Lead and support capital expenditure requests and implementations using basic cost justification and business management principles.
- Participate in design reviews to evaluate all aspects of designs including safety, mechanical robustness, and electrical/controls standardization.
- Other duties as assigned.
YOU HAVE:
- Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Industrial Technology, or related degree.
- 3+ years' experience developing factory automation systems.
- Detailed experience with Human Machine Interface (HMI), control systems, Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) (Allen Bradley / Rockwell, Siemens, Omron) and control components.
- Demonstrated proficiency in control panel design.
- Ideally, experience with High-Level Programming Languages.
- Structured troubleshooting and problem solving skills.
- Strong analytical and root cause analysis skills.
- Proficient user in computer programs including Studio5000, Ignition, FactoryTalk, LabVIEW, AutoCAD, NodeRED, SQL, SolidWorks.
- Ability to build and maintain effective work relationships, both internal and external, and establish credibility with business partners.
- Ability to plan, organize, and prioritize time/workload and delegate work in order to accomplish tasks and meet deadlines.
- Ability to learn quickly and adapt to rapidly changing business circumstances; must be able to thrive in a constantly changing business environment.
- Experience presenting to all levels of the organization.

nVent's pay scale is based on the expected range of base pay for this job and the employee's work location. Employee pay within this range will be based on a combination of factors including knowledge, skills, abilities, experience, education, and performance. Where federal, state, or local minimum wage requirements exist, employee pay will comply.
Compensation Range: $76,000.00 - $141,100.00
