Join the HJF Team! HJF is seeking a Clinical Research Assistant I to perform data collection by conducting research interviews, managing study data, and assisting with other study related tasks. The Clinical Research Assistant will recruit and screen subjects for research studies and collect baseline and follow up data from subjects. This is the first of four levels of clinical research assistants and works under the guidance and direction of senior staff. This position will be in support of a feasibility study at Joint Base Elmendorf Richardson in Anchorage, AK . The aim of the clinical trial is to standardize a Music Therapy and Speech-Language Pathology Co-Treatment for Military-Connected Populations with TBI. The person in this role would be asked to meet the needs of customers while supporting the medical center and service missions. Consistently communicate and treat customers (patients, visitors, volunteers, and all medical center staff) in a courteous, tactful, and respectful manner. Providing the customer with consistent information according to established policies and procedures while handeling conflict and problems in dealing with the customer constructively and appropriately. Please note, due to site requirements this position requires U.S. citizenship. The Henry M. Responsibilities
- Establishes and maintains database files and progress reports for studies, projects and programs.
- Collects baseline and follow up data, ensuring validity, accuracy, and compliance with quality assurance requirements.
- Performs data entry into electronic data capture system.
- Collection of heart rate variability data utilizing wearable devices and managing relevant output.
- Collects, tracks, and maintains regulatory documentation for study compliance.
- With oversight from the lead study coordinator, ensures that research records, data, and relevant study materials are updated, stored, secured properly, and properly maintained, as outlined in the research protocol.
- Conducts semi-structured interviews, schedules treatment and outcome assessment sessions, assists with coding of qualitative data.
- With oversight from the lead study coordinator, ensures that any adverse events have been documented and forwarded to the appropriate principal investigator.
- Performs administrative duties such as: assist with writing of study reports, scientific literature searches, manuscripts and presenting studies; develop data collection packets; assist research team with preparing session-related materials; and provide data tracking updates for weekly study meetings.
- Screens and assists with consenting study subjects and assists with processing lab specimens.
- Assists with maintaining study equipment including musical instruments.
- Interaction with study subjects, including screening, recruitment and data collection.
- May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the lead study coordinator and supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training and meetings relevant to the research project
Qualifications
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's Degree.
- Minimum of 0-2 years experience required.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Ability to understand and utilize scientific/medical terminology and research theory in both oral and written communications.
- Ability to use measurable and verifiable information for making decisions or judgments; Excellent organizational and project management skills.
- Experience conducting outcome assessments and managing research data.
- Experience maintaining research data records as per study protocols.
- Skill in using REDcap preferred.
- Keep all certifications current to include Basic Life Support, HIPAA, and any other certifications required by the facility.
- Exposure to and familiarity with military culture and delivery of healthcare at a Military Treatment Facility (MTF) or Veterans Affairs (VA) Hospital.
- Working knowledge of all applicable federal and military regulations regarding the use of human and animal subjects in research (e.g.: 21 CFR 50, 21 CFR 56, 21 CFR 312, 21 CFR 314,45 CFR 46, FDA Form 1571, and FDA Form 1572).
- Must be familiar with Institutional Review Board (IRB) activities and Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC) actions.
- Must be able to work independently to meet deadlines.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to establish goals and agendas.
- Able to function in accordance with established protocols.
- Protects printed and electronic files containing sensitive data in accordance with the provisions of the Privacy Act of 1974 and other applicable laws, regulations, statuses and medical center policy.
- Protects the data from unauthorized release or from loss, alteration, or unauthorized deletion.
- Follows applicable regulations and instructions regarding access to computerized files, release of access codes, etc.
- Uses word processing software to execute several office automations functions such as storing and retrieving electronic documents and files, activating printers; inserting and deleting text, formatting letters, reports, and memoranda; and transmitting and receiving email.
- Adhere to departmental, medical center, National Offices, CARF, The Joint Commission, and other applicable guidelines and regulatory bodies.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a T1/Public Trust background check and CAC card.
Physical Capabilities
- Ability to stand or sit at a computer for prolonged periods.
Work Environment
- This position will take place primarily in a clinic environment.
Compensation
- The hourly rate for this position is $18.25 - $26.44. Actual hourly rate will be determined based on experience, education, etc.
