Organizational Unit Overview
The Academic Success Center, housed within the Office of Educator Preparation in the College of Education, is dedicated to fostering student achievement. Committed to supporting future educators, the College of Education prioritizes student success by offering a range of services and programs through the COE Academic Success Center. These include Academic Advising for education students within COE academic degree programs, the Education Community of Scholars, the Education Living-Learning Community, and the North Carolina Teaching Fellows program.
Job Duties
The Academic Advisor will: provide academic advising on a full-time basis to the College of Education's undergraduate and initial licensure populations; guide students in the development of decision-making skills; advise students regarding the University's policies, procedures, rules and regulations; advise students with regards to academic requirements for COE majors; use data to inform advising decisions and programming; provide instruction through workshops and other avenues; assist with presentations of academic information for recruitment and orientation purposes; identifying and implement retention programming and strategies; collaborate with others to develop staff recruitment and retention events, including some travel, nights, and weekend work; establish relationships with faculty and staff members; perform other duties as assigned by the Lead Coordinator for UG Advising, Assistant Dean of UG Affairs and Educator Preparation and/or the Dean of the College of Education. The position may also include teaching COAD 1000 when needed.

Academic Advising (70%)
The Academic Advisor will provide comprehensive academic advising on a full-time basis to the COE's undergraduate student population: guide students in the development of decision-making skills; advise students regarding the University's academic policies, procedures, rules, and regulations; advise students with regards to academic requirements for COE degrees; guide students towards successful completion of teacher education licensure requirements; support students in setting academic and career goals, providing referrals to career services and other campus resources as needed.

Use data to inform advising and programming best practices.

Maintain accurate advising records and documentation in accordance with university policies.

Recruitment and Retention (20%)
Be an integral part of New Student Orientation and Transfer Orientation sessions that acclimate incoming students to ECU and the College of Education.

Assist with student recruitment initiatives and presentations, including attending university events, orientation sessions, and high school visits to promote education programs.
Identify and implement retention programming and strategies.

Establish relationships with faculty and staff members in order to best advise students, as well as aid in the recruitment and retention process.
The position may include teaching COAD 1000 (Freshman Seminar) as needed.

Other Duties as Assigned: (10%)
Collaborate with faculty, staff, and administrators to support student success initiatives.

Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current with best practices in academic advising and student support services.

Assist in planning and facilitating College of Education events, workshops, and student engagement programs.

This position is contingent upon available funding.
Minimum Education/Experience
Master's degree in a related field (e.g. counseling, adult education, student services, teacher education); Qualifying degrees must be conferred and received by appropriate accredited institutions.

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education
Previous work experience with academic advising in a higher education setting is preferred. Experience in academic advising, student services, or a related field in higher education. Proficiency in using student information systems, advising tools, and technology for academic planning. Experience working with students in teacher preparation programs. Knowledge of university academic policies, procedures, and student success strategies. Experience with recruitment, retention, and student engagement initiatives. Excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills; strong time-management skills; ability to work effectively as a member of a dynamic, motivated team.
