About the Job

Dr. Ziad Nahas (Interventional Psychiatry Lab) in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences is seeking an outstanding candidate for a postdoctoral position to work on a federally-funded, multi-site, collaborative project in the area of neurostimulation research on Vagus Nerve Stimulation. Candidates should be passionate about advancing knowledge in the area of translational research of depressive disorders and other mental health conditions with a focus on invasive and non-invasive brain stimulation treatments. The position is available June 1, 2025, and funding is available for at least one year, with the potential to extend a second year.

Responsibilities/Duties:

Study Management and Coordination - 45%
Monitor implementation, management, coordination and documentation of all study activities in accordance with GCP, federal regulations and institutional policies. Ensure that components of the project are completed in an ethically, scientifically, rigorous and timely manner. Continuously update safety records and procedures.

Specific Study Management Duties:
* Maintain working knowledge of assigned protocol
* Perform screening related activities as per protocol specific guidelines
* Consent and explain study to new patients/family members as appropriate
* Ensure smooth on-site visit for partner site participants
* Complete case report forms and respond to monitor issues queries
* Complete adverse event (AE) logs and other study documentation.
* Complete required forms for any serious adverse events (SAE) and report and notify appropriate departments / sponsors per requirements
* Schedule/conduct study monitor visits as directed by study sponsor
* Work with regulatory to update participants on study amendments and re-consenting process
* Communicate with principal investigator to ensure study specific procedures are completed
* Manage follow up schedule and perform follow up visits
* Effectively work independently in multiple locations with hospital and clinic staff to complete research related tasks

Clinical Research Rating - 45%
Responsible for completing structured clinical interviews for research participants at local and partner sites

Specific Rating Duties:
* Complete study specific rater training to ensure integrity of data
* Attend all scheduled rater phone calls and complete interviews as required by protocol
* Enter all data accurately in a timely manner, maintaining all relevant study blinding
* Participate in quality assurance as required

Career Development - 10%
Development of professional and technical skills, including data analysis, presentation and publication support

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

* PhD or MD, with experience working directly with patients or research participants
* Proficiency with Microsoft Office software
* Possess excellent communication skills; verbal and written
* Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively with others in person and virtually
* Exposure to electronic database/form development (REDCap or equivalent)
* Exposure to clinical trials, particularly collecting histories or completing assessments

Preferred Qualifications:
* Experience with electronic medical records systems (e.g., Epic or other)
* Experience with clinical trials, including data collection and analysis
* Experience performing clinical or research interviews with patients or participants
* Record of presenting research via presentation or publication

Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: The salary range is $61,008 - $74,008, depending on education/qualifications/experience.
