JOB SUMMARY

The Business Systems Analyst is a member of the office Systems Unit and reports to the Associate Director, Fiscal and Systems. The Business Systems Analyst is the Financial Aid Office's first-tier support for automated solutions within the Academic Information System transactional and reporting environments. The incumbent works closely with the systems team and Information Technology Services (ITS) to complete a wide range of assignments and business process issues of limited to moderate complex scope in support of the Financial Aid and Scholarship Office within multiple software applications. The incumbent is expected to demonstrate good judgment in selecting methods and techniques to obtain solutions.

APPOINTMENT INFORMATION

Budgeted Salary: $33.29 - $39.75/hour. Salary commensurate with skills, qualifications and experience.
Under California law, the University of California, Santa Cruz is required to post a reasonable estimate of the compensation for this role. The salary shown above is the budgeted amount the University reasonably expects to pay and the salary extended should not exceed this posted amount.

JOB DUTIES

20% - System Modifications, Enhancements and Upgrades

  • Formulates and defines limited to moderately complex systems scope and objectives. Analyzes business processes and problems to understand and validate functional business requirements to meet end-user needs.
  • Gathers, analyzes, and documents functional business requirements.

20% - Change Management

  • Identifies, evaluates, and develops limited to moderately complex systems and procedures.
  • Executes unit integration and acceptance testing according to the developed plan.
  • May participate in cross-functional teams to address business process or systems issues.

20% - Production Support

  • Maintains and reviews results of Financial Aid production schedule and works with Senior Business Systems Analysts and developers to resolve problems, maintain records, and recommend changes.
  • Coordinates distribution of system output to staff.

15% - Documentation and Security

  • Assists with project plan development and end user documentation & security.
  • Gathers and analyzes data to prepare business processes and procedural documentation.
  • Assists with the implementation of changes in security, development, maintenance, system standards, and in the creation of specifications.

15% - Reporting

  • Assists with data analysis, development, and maintenance of end-user reports.

10% - Support

  • Assist in troubleshooting and resolution of customer-reported issues related to enterprise solutions.
  • Helps develop basic user interface designs.
  • Provides support on new applications.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (including verbal and written) to represent the department. Demonstrated ability to work with others from diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to manage competing and complex priorities simultaneously.
  • Self-motivated and works independently and as part of a team. Able to learn effectively and meet deadlines. Demonstrates problem solving skills. Effective team player and ability to collaborate with both technical and nontechnical staff.
  • Attention to detail and ability to thoroughly execute on tasks; excellent organizational skills.
  • Basic knowledge of SQL or data visualization tools.
  • One year of experience in the information technology field or related area.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Math or Engineering or related technical degree.
  • Experience in PeopleSoft Student Financial Aid systems programming and administration.
  • Experience working in higher education in financial aid, either back-end or front-end support.
  • Working knowledge of SQL and complex database structures.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

  • Selected candidate will be required to pass a pre-employment criminal history background check.

  • Ability to work long periods of time at a computer with or without accommodation.
  • The selected candidate has the option to work a hybrid work schedule. If a hybrid work schedule is confirmed, the selected candidate must be able to work successfully from a home/remote office and be able to fulfill the requirements of the UCSC telecommuting agreement.
  • This position requires the ability to report to campus to work in-person as operationally required, with reasonable notice as determined by your manager; travel expenses not covered.
  • Ability to occasionally work overtime with little or no advance notice.
  • Selected candidate will be required to complete training within established time frames as directed including UC compliance training.

Sensitive information includes but is not limited to employee and student records, health and patient records, financial data, strategic plans, proprietary information and any other sensitive or non-public information learned during the course and scope of employment. Understands that sensitive information should be shared on a limited basis and actively takes steps to limit access to sensitive information to individuals who have legitimate business need to know. Ensure that sensitive information is properly safeguarded. Follow all organizational policies and laws on data protection and privacy. This includes secure handling of physical and digital records and proper usage of IT systems to prevent data leaks. The unauthorized or improper disclosure of confidential work-related information obtained from any source on any work-related matter is a violation of these expectations.
