Description

The Systems Genetics laboratory in the Department of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine is looking for a Staff Research Associate II. You will provide administrative and experimental support for the ongoing work on dissecting pathways which lead to increased susceptibility to cardiometabolic disorders. You will also act as the Network Coordinator of an International Network of Excellence Award. Under the direction of the principal investigator, the Staff Research Associate II will have the following professional responsibilities: Lab management, Coordination of an international research network, and support ongoing research projects about the molecular genetic mechanisms that lead to susceptibility to cardiometabolic diseases.

Salary Range: $28.88 - $46.46/Hourly

Qualifications

All Required:


  • Demonstrated ability in handling multiple tasks in an organized and efficient manner.
  • Ability to perform laboratory procedures using applicable equipment and techniques.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to use computers and related software applications (EXCEL, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to lift, transport, and deliver materials and stock lab supplies and goods.
  • Ability to keep storage and work spaces organized and clean. Ability to wear and work in personal protective equipment.
  • Ability to work independently and problem solve.
  • Ability to train and supervise students.
  • Ability to work with co-workers, students, and others. Interpersonal skills in leadership, difficult conversations, conflict resolution, and mediation.
  • General knowledge of the safe and proper handling and disposal of applicable specimens, material, and equipment. Skills in handling laboratory animals (mice).
  • Skills in handling bio-hazard material.
  • Skills in extracting DNA, RNA from cells and tissues using established protocols.
  • Skills in PCR and RT-qPCR. Skills in protein purification and Western blot analyses.
  • Skills in setting up the lab equipment and supplies.
  • Skills in ordering lab supplies and equipment.
  • Skill in maintaining cell culture, freezing and thawing frozen samples.
  • Broad interest in biological research and scientific discussion.
