JOB SUMMARY
This position works under general supervision of physician, Advanced Practice Provider and/or nursing supervisor to provide nursing services in care and treatment of patients receiving infusions for complex diagnoses.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION
Required
- Education
Graduate of an approved/accredited nursing program.
- Licenses and Certifications
(RN) REGISTERED NURSE Licensure as Registered Nurse by Board of Nurse Examiners for State of Texas Upon Hire and
(BLS) BASIC LIFE SUPPORT Certification through a course accredited by the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC) Upon Hire and
Successful completion of Oncology Nursing Society/Oncology Nursing Certification Corporation (ONS/ONCC) Chemotherapy Immunotherapy Certificate within 60 days of hire within 60 Days

JOB DUTIES
- Delivers nursing interventions to assigned patients that are consistent with stated medical plan of care or providers orders. Utilizing the nursing process assesses signs, symptoms and behavior of patients, implements needed interventions within scope of practice, and records assessment, interventions and the patients' response in the medical record. Prepares and administers medications as prescribed by providers.
- Administers biotherapy and chemotherapy products in the infusion area. Demonstrates knowledge of different vascular access devices and peripheral IV management.
- Maintains a safe and secure environment to meet patient needs. Completes billing of all nursing procedures including any infusion therapy.
- Provides patient education procedural instructions, general health information, and reinforces physician instructions in person and through telephone contact and documents patient's response in medical record.
- Ensures appropriate patient consents and authorizations are obtained for research and/or medical treatment.
- Triages patient phone or Mychart inquiries according to physician and/or departmental protocols and documents such actions in patients' electronic medical record (EMR).
- Precepts new staff to the clinic processes related to operations and clinical practice within the new staff member's scope of practice. Consistently assists all new staff in the clinic in order to assure their success.
- Proficiency in electronic medical record documentation.
- Works with the multidisciplinary care team to facilitate patient quality of care.
- Participates in evaluating nursing needs of patients; assesses problems affecting patients; recommends policy and/or procedural change s according to nursing expertise. Facilitates patient-physician communication and assists the patient through the treatment process.
- Recognizes when new patient education materials or techniques are required and assists leadership to provide those materials to the patients.
- Provides patient counseling based on specialized and/or advanced knowledge gained through education and experience.
- Attends multidisciplinary team meetings for disease processes updates.
- Participates in the recommendation of policy and/or procedural changes according to nursing expertise.
- Inspects equipment and facilities visually and physically to ensure patient safety and proper functioning of equipment.
- Maintains adequate stock of supplies as required for work area.
- Duties performed may include one or more of the following core functions: (a) Directly interacting with or caring for patients; (b) Directly interacting with or caring for human-subjects research participants; (c) Regularly maintaining, modifying, releasing or similarly affecting patient records (including patient financial records); or (d) Regularly maintaining, modifying, releasing or similarly affecting human-subjects research records.
