Job Summary
Auburn Advancement is excited to begin the search for a Development Officer for the Jule Collins Smith Museum to join our philanthropy team! This position is vital in building lasting relationships and securing the resources needed to support Auburn Advancement and Auburn University's philanthropic mission.

What You'll Do:


  • Identify and Cultivate Prospects: Discover and build relationships with potential major giving prospects through research, initial contact ratings, peer reviews, and other resources. Understand the passions and interests of prospects to align their philanthropic goals with Auburn's mission.

  • Solicit and Secure Gifts: Engage with prospects to solicit major gifts through person-to-person visits, group presentations, and phone calls. Present compelling cases for support, highlighting the transformative power of their contributions.

  • Stewardship and Engagement: Show gratitude for donations through personalized acknowledgements, and keep donors informed and involved by attending events and maintaining regular contact. Ensure donors feel valued and connected to the impact of their gifts.

  • Champion Philanthropy: Impact a culture of giving for Auburn University, encouraging alumni and stakeholders to support the university's mission and vision. Foster a sense of pride and ownership among donors, showcasing the transformative impact their gifts have on Auburn's future.

The Jule is an award-winning academic museum whose primary role is to teach with objects, serving Auburn students, faculty and staff, as well as, stakeholders across the state - https://jcsm.auburn.edu/.

Accredited by the American Association of Museums and a member of the Association of Academic Museums and Galleries, The Jule stewards a renowned art collection of more than 3000 objects on behalf of Auburn University. . Advancing research, outreach and instruction through its collections and programs in active and welcoming learning environments, the museum engages through exhibitions and hosting artists and scholars from across the nation to provide positive impacts for students and faculty. Serving beyond the gallery walls, it also serves the state of Alabama through traveling art programming. The Jule will turn 25 in 2028! With that upcoming milestone, the museum is focused on raising funds to endow positions and programs, establish scholarships, acquire and conserve art, and provide adequate teaching space, all to further center its role within the intellectual life of Auburn University.

The nature of this role is highly externally focused, requiring frequent travel and meetings on and off campus during regular and non-traditional business hours, and is therefore expected to operate with high-levels of autonomy
Essential Functions
Purpose:

  • Proactively identify and cultivate relationships with potential major giving prospects, leveraging research, reviews, and contact reports to understand their passions and interests. Your efforts will help align their philanthropic goals with Auburn's mission, creating meaningful and impactful giving opportunities.


Collaboration:
  • In coordination with the Executive Director, strategically develop goals, new plans, and project proposals aligned with the museum's mission and goals. Provide organized and regular updates ensuring a cooperative atmosphere to meet objectives. Meet with Advancement colleagues and university partners, including athletics, to discuss major donor prospects and strategies, build and maintain strong relationships with museum and advancement colleagues, donors, advisory board members and other stakeholders.
Innovation:
  • With attention to detail and as applicable, in collaboration with the museum's communications and external relations unit, develop campaign and presentation proposals centering funding priorities to keep prospects informed, interested, and involved. Participate in special projects, initiatives, and other duties as assigned, contributing to innovative fundraising efforts and achievements of museum goals.
Production:
  • Track and meet fundraising metrics, ensuring goals are achieved and reporting progress through Auburn Advancement. Assist with various fundraising activities, including meetings and special events, ensuring smooth execution and donor engagement.
Leadership and Management:

  • Provides strategic leadership and day-to-day management to guide, support, and develop team members.
  • Participates as an integral member of the museums senior leadership team to offer insight and support the museum's mission.
