Description

The Department of French Studies at Smith College invites applications for a 1-year, non-renewable position with full benefits at the rank of Visiting Assistant Professor to begin July 1, 2025. This position has a teaching load of five semester-long courses over the academic year.

We seek an innovative and experienced teacher who would be prepared to teach language courses at the introductory and intermediate levels, as well as more advanced courses in literary and cultural analysis on a topic of expertise. The successful candidate will participate in the development of the French undergraduate curriculum, advise students informally, and engage in the cultural, academic, and scholarly life of the department.

Candidates must have a Ph.D. in French or Francophone Studies or a directly related field by the time of appointment, native or near-native fluency in French and English, and experience with current practices for teaching French as a second language.
