This position offers a unique opportunity to educate visitors of all ages about the Commonwealth's rich agricultural heritage, traditional crafts, Pennsylvania German culture and rural life from the 18th and 19th centuries. As the Museum Educator 2, you will play a vital role in developing, implementing, and promoting dynamic educational programs that bring history to life. Whether leading interactive tours, coordinating hands-on workshops, or assisting with school field trips and special events, you will be an essential part of the museum's mission to educate and inspire.

If you have experience in museum education, interpretation, public programming, or traditional skills demonstrations and enjoy engaging with diverse audiences, we encourage you to apply and be a part of the Landis Valley experience!

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

Each year, thousands of visitors from across the country and around the world visit Landis Valley Village & Farm Museum to experience Pennsylvania's rural and agricultural history through immersive, hands-on learning. As the Museum Educator 2, you will be an integral part of the museum's educational and interpretive team, responsible for developing and delivering engaging programming that highlights the everyday lives, trades, and agricultural practices of 18th- and 19th-century Pennsylvanians.

You will play a lead role in planning and implementing school programs, guided tours, hands-on workshops, public programs, and community outreach initiatives, ensuring they provide authentic, educational and engaging experiences based in the current standards for museum education. This work includes overseeing the Farm and Garden Program and the Heirloom Seed Project as well as conducting in-person and virtual lectures, special programs, and off-site outreach efforts to expand the museum's audience. You will work closely with the Site Administrator, the Landis Valley Associates, and other educational advisors to develop the museum's annual calendar of programs and events, craft interpretive materials and lesson plans, and ensure historical accuracy and visitor engagement in all educational offerings.

As the Museum Educator 2, you will also work with site staff to recruit, train, schedule, and evaluate volunteers and student interns, ensuring that interpretive staff effectively communicate Landis Valley's historical themes. Moreover, you will contribute to marketing and outreach efforts, including developing promotional materials such as brochures, posters, signs, media releases, and social media content.

The Museum Educator 2 is often the primary PHMC representative on-site, responsible for ensuring daily museum operations run smoothly and in alignment with established guidelines. Landis Valley operates with a small, dedicated team, and you will be expected to collaborate closely with all departments, actively participate in event planning and execution, and contribute to overall site operations. Additionally, as the Museum Educator 2, you will be expected to uphold industry best practices and adhere to PHMC Core Values, ensuring that Landis Valley Village & Farm Museum remains a dynamic, engaging, and welcoming institution for all visitors.
