Prospect Research Officer- Development (Hybrid)

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Prospect Research Officer will serve as an integral part of the BMC's Development Department, providing strategy and insight to drive philanthropic revenue. Reporting to the Director of Prospect Development, the Prospect Research Officer will use data-driven techniques to identify potential supporters and optimize fundraiser portfolios. The Prospect Research Officer will be responsible for data accuracy and management in the department database.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES:


  • Identify individual, corporate and foundation prospects based on analysis of wealth indicators, philanthropy, interests, engagement and connections to BMC.
  • Analyze, interpret, and summarize data from a wide range of sources, including financial disclosure documents, to determine potential gift capacity.
  • Compose research profiles for individuals, including trustee bios, event bios, and prospect profiles that are carefully proofread and edited for accuracy, completeness, and clarity.
  • Create concise, accurate, and timely corporate and foundation research products that include organizational history, financial data, news, philanthropic priorities and potential Boston Medical Center connections.
  • Conduct wealth screenings, analysis, and verification of data. Review, segment, and analyze large data sets and synthesize information to provide suggestions and recommendations, especially for enhancing portfolios and identification pools.
  • Assist the Director with the prospect management process and participate in and support prospect and portfolio strategy meetings.
  • Ensure accurate record keeping in the CRM database.
  • Track and disseminate news and information about donors and prospects as well relevant local and industry news.
  • Uphold the ethical and confidentiality guidelines of BMC, HIPAA and the Association of Professional Researchers for Advancement (APRA).
  • Assist with other Development initiatives and projects as needed.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor's degree and 5 years' experience in a development office or similar environment with related experience.

PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:


  • Experience with data management systems strongly preferred, preferably Blackbaud's Raiser's Edge software, Microsoft Windows, MS Office (Word and Excel), and MS Outlook
  • Experience with analytics and predictive models

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES (KSAs):


  • Must be extremely detail oriented and able to perform well under pressure while managing multiple tasks/projects effectively and efficiently.
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills; must effectively communicate in a highly professional manner.
  • Flexibility, excellent interpersonal skills, project coordination experience, and the ability to work well with all levels of internal management and staff, as well as with outside clients and vendors.
  • Ability to problem-solve, triage, independently make decisions, and prioritize tasks.
  • Desire to learn and implement knowledge across assigned tasks and workflow.
  • Familiarity and or/proficiency with Internet search strategies and use of electronic databases and subscription resources preferred such as: Lexis-Nexis for Development Professionals, iWave, Relationship Science, SEC Edgar, etc.
