Responsibilities

Clarion Psychiatric Center offers inpatient treatment for adults with moderate to severe psychiatric problems, inpatient crisis stabilization for children and adolescents, and a Partial Hospitalization Program for school-aged children. Our recently expanded 112-bed inpatient program has 4 units. We are currently recruiting a new team member for our Admissions Department. The Intake Counselor:

  • Provides call and assessment services for all information and referral contacts.
  • Performs intake assessments to gather information to determine appropriate treatment strategies.
  • Reviews assessments with Dept. Director and/or Physician to determine a course of treatment.
  • Functions as liaison with attending physicians, treatment units and referral sources.

Qualifications

Education : Bachelors Degree in Mental Health Field or LPN License required. One (1) year behavioral health experience preferred. Masters Degree in Mental Health Field or RN License preferred.

Licensure / Certification: Current CPR preferred.

Experience: One-year experience in psychiatric care preferred.

Knowledge/Skills: Knowledge of therapeutic relationships, therapeutic processes, growth and development, limit-setting and behavior management, crisis management of aggressive behaviors, CPR training, understanding of psychiatric diagnoses, verbiage and psychology, and its application through understanding of the Pa. Mental Health Act. Must possess effective communications skills, knowledge of computer systems and the ability to utilize them. Knowledge of Community Mental Health Systems and Agencies preferred

General Working Environment: Fast paced office environment interacting with the public and other Health Care Professionals in a variety of scenarios i.e. on the telephone, in assessments, etc. Some risk involved in the event of the presence of an aggressive patient. Staff working in this position may be required to intervene and assist with aggressive patients. Must possess valid Pennsylvania driver's license. Is subject to exposure to infectious waste, diseases, conditions, etc., including exposure to HIV and Hepatitis B Viruses

Able to participate in Handle With Care physical restraints.
