How you will make an Impact (Job Summary)

SPX is a diverse team of unique individuals who all make an impact. As a Corporate Accounting Manager, Business Unit Operations, you will ensure that the SPX Business Units are complying with SPX Technologies' ("SPX") accounting policies, U.S. GAAP and SEC regulations to ensure the financial integrity of SPX. Perform detailed financial statement reviews and analyses within the context of a diversified, multinational entity.

What you can expect in this role (Job Responsibilities)

While each day brings new opportunities at SPX, your core responsibilities will be:

  1. General Accounting and Analysis
  • Work closely with the Corporate Controller, Assistant Corporate Controller, Corporate Accounting Managers and Business Unit CFOs on day-to-day accounting matters, including technical accounting and financial/SEC reporting issues such as purchase accounting, revenue recognition, judgmental reserves, accounting for leases, restructuring initiatives, etc.
  • Prepare and review memos on significant accounting matters.
  • Conduct in-depth reviews of acquisitions to understand purchase price allocation, complete opening balance sheet reviews, and assist with the subsequent accounting. This includes managing the opening balance sheet review and valuation process with external experts.
  • Interact with external auditors in connection with the quarterly reviews and annual audit.
  1. Business Unit Support:
  • Assist with integration efforts for new acquisitions (accounting, financial reporting systems and internal controls).
  • Conduct detailed review and analysis of monthly financial statements and analyses prepared by Business Units.
  • Work with the Corporate Accounting team to prepare and deliver training sessions for the Business Unit CFOs and Controllers on technical accounting or other matters (e.g., revenue recognition, inventory accounting, judgmental accruals, etc.).
  1. Compliance:
  • Drive and improve internal policies & procedures (consistent with U.S. GAAP & SEC requirements) to ensure regulatory compliance and the highest integrity of financial reporting.
  • Stay current on accounting and financial reporting requirements and regulations through professional reading, professional websites, attendance at U.S. GAAP training courses, etc. and, as necessary, assist Business Unit CFOs and Controllers in implementation of new accounting standards.

What we are looking for (Experience, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education)

We each bring something to the table, and we are looking for someone who has:

Required Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years "Big Four" experience with publicly traded companies or 5 - 10 years of progressive financial experience, including strong controllership experience in high performing, financially driven global organizations.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong understanding of accounting guidance, including the ability to perform accounting research via accounting research engines such as Checkpoint.
  • Excellent analytical and communication skills required.
  • Ability to work in a team-oriented environment that is fast paced and demanding.
  • Must be self-directed, have excellent initiative and organizational skills.
  • Exhibit a strong ability to handle multiple demands with a sense of urgency, drive and energy.
  • Works well under stress with the ability to deliver on time.
  • Ability to prioritize and focus on various initiatives/projects.
  • Strong working knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite.

Education & Certifications

  • Degree in Accounting
  • Certified Public Accountant

Travel & Working Environment

  • Travel less than 10%
