Color Lab Team Lead

The Color Lab Team leader will report to the Automotive Finishes Division Color Formulation Director to support the color formulation efforts for non-automotive projects. The Color Lab Team Leader will provide leadership to a team of Colorist(s), Color Matchers, Technicians by managing color projects defined and requested by marketing units to support market growth and maintenance plans related to color formulations.

Job duties include contact with other employees and access confidential and proprietary information and/or other items of value, and such access may be supervised or unsupervised. The Company therefore has determined that a review of criminal history is necessary to protect the business and its operations and reputation and is necessary to protect the safety of the Company's staff, employees, and business relationships.

1. Provide leadership to a team of Colorist(s), Color Matchers, Technicians by managing color projects defined and requested by marketing units to support market growth and maintenance plans related to color formulations.

a. Responsible for the management and development of the above Team which includes timely completion of performance appraisals, interviewing, and hiring.

b. Ensures team process flows and tasks are documented, trained, and updated as needed.

c. Written and verbal communication of team and project related information to leadership.

2. Understand color science principles, the products' characteristics and properties, the equipment needed to perform the work and be able to formulate and visually approve color matches as needed.

a. Supervise color development activities to ensure expected quality levels are met.

b. Ensure equipment is calibrated as needed.

3. Generate sound data, prepares project reports as needed with conclusions and recommendations.

a. Collects raw data and information, evaluates, and assesses.

b. Communicates with other contributors.

4. Develop team's technical expertise at local level by assisting with training programs.

a. Assess skill and knowledge level of team members and identify gaps.

b. Organize appropriate training as needed.

5. Comply with and displays knowledge of all ISO and safety policies/regulations and always adheres to them.

a. Ensure all team members understand and comply.

6. Maintaining safe lab operating procedures following Sherwin-Williams' policies and local rules codes and regulations

7. Additional duties as assigned.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
* Must be legally authorized to work in the country for which you are applying for employment (without now or in the future needing sponsorship for employment work visa and/or permanent residence status).
* Bachelor's degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Math field or at least 12 years of chemical industry experience.
* 6 years in Coatings Industry
* Computer knowledge: Microsoft Office
* 6 years progressive experience managing others, mentoring and/or training lower-level professionals.
* Knowledge of paint and color concepts and property calculations.
* Familiar with coatings laboratory equipment
* Operating Lab equipment
* Applying basic technical formulation principles and practices
* Color measurement and formulation
* Verbal and written communications
* ISO 9000 / OSHAS 18000 knowledge

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
* Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry
* 12 years of Color experience in a lab setting.
* Color measuring software and spectrophotometer operation
* ERP (Oracle or equivalent)
* Purchasing software, AOM Color measurement techniques and operating software
* Familiar with calibration techniques
* Troubleshooting/calibrating lab equipment

Travel Requirements: 10%

This role is located at the Warrensville Heights, OH Technical Center and will relocate to the new Brecksville, OH location in 2025.
