Job Summary:

The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in data analysis, strategic planning, ticket sales optimization, exceptional leadership skills, fiscal management skills, client management skills including conflict resolution, and a deep understanding of the live performing arts and entertainment industry.

The Assistant Director of Ticketing and Patron Services is a key leadership position for the Wisconsin Union Theater (WUT). This role is responsible for helping achieve financial and customer service objectives and oversees the ticketing and patron services for arts events on campus. This position will create and implement new ticket sales strategies that increase the profitability of Theater as well as enhancing ticketing services and event experiences for our patrons. This role is responsible for rigorous data analysis and insight development and applying those insights to our seasonal programming, marketing plans, financial planning processes, and Front-of-House operations. This position will work closely with the Director of WUT and the Assistant Director of Theater Event Operations on setting ticket pricing, revenue goals, and budget forecasts. In addition, this role will ensure that Campus Arts Ticketing is evolving and operating to best meet the box office and patron services needs for all arts events on campus. This role will spearhead the relationship with the ticketing software company and ensure the organization is optimizing the functionality of that software. This position ensures that all operations comply with the University's cash and credit card handling policies.

This position reports directly to the Wisconsin Union Theater Director and supervises the Box Office Manager, the Ticketing Systems & Web Administrator, plus indirect oversight of approximately 25 part time staff who comprise box office and front-of-house operations.


Responsibilities:
Develops, evaluates and implements programs and recruitment efforts in order to support student success in various student affairs. Assists in the development of internal partnerships in support of program events and engages students related to advising, student conduct, or advocacy.

  • 20% Develops, plans, and directs staff implementation and operational work plans of one or multiple student affairs programs, activities, experiences, and/or services
  • 30% Evaluates and promotes short and long term existing strategies and makes recommendations for program enhancement
  • 20% Contributes to the design of student-focused programs and associated resources and materials to promote new and ongoing educational initiatives
  • 10% Answers questions and provides information regarding student affairs resources to individual students and groups
  • 10% Exercises supervisory authority, including hiring, transferring, suspending, promoting, managing conduct and performance, discharging, assigning, rewarding, disciplining, and/or approving hours worked of at least 2.0 full-time equivalent (FTE) employees
  • 5% Identifies, develops, and facilitates unit staff training opportunities
  • 5% May monitor the program budget and approve expenditures

Qualifications:

Required:
- 7+ years of ticketing and patron services in a performing arts or live event environment
- A solid understanding of sales principles, techniques and best practices
- The ability to develop and implement effective sales strategies
- Knowledge of various ticketing systems and other sales technologies
- Proficient in using CRM software or other sales tools to manage and track sales activities
- Strong analytical knowledge of statistical insights
- Strong leadership skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills


Work Type:

Full Time: 100%

It is anticipated this position requires work be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location.

Core schedule is M-F 9am-5pm plus occasional evenings and weekends.

This role may be asked to provide event support on occasion if we are understaffed or we need extra people to ensure a smooth event.

Additional Information:

The Wisconsin Union Theater consists of two performance venues and one rehearsal/dance studio. All spaces have fully sprung stage floors, state-of-the-art sound, lighting and technical systems.

Campus Arts Ticketing is a service provided by the Wisconsin Union Theater for the campus by selling tickets in two permanent and multiple satellite locations. Tickets and subscriptions are sold for the Wisconsin Union Theater campus, departments, student organizations, and community groups. In total approximately 100,000 tickets are distributed annually.

Through a student-led programming committee, the Wisconsin Union Theater presents a season consisting of 30 events in music, theater, dance, and more. Additionally, the Theater hosts numerous campus events, including graduations, lectures, conferences, and performances by university and community departments and organizations.

The Wisconsin Union operates from several buildings on the UW-Madison campus including Memorial Union, Union South, Fluno Center, Pyle Center, University Club, Red Gym, and the Student Activity Center. The Wisconsin Union is a financially self-supporting division of the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Financial support for the organization is provided by income earned by over thirty food service units and a variety of nonfood units such as games, guest rooms, space rentals and campus vending. Substantial support is also provided by student fees. The total annual organizational budget is approximately $60 million dollars.

Student Affairs is led by the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs. Our staff is dedicated to serving students and to helping them succeed in and out of the classroom in areas including health and well-being, identity and inclusion, leadership and engagement, and student advocacy. Student Affairs includes departments led by the dean of students; departments that provide identity-based spaces and leadership resources; the Wisconsin Union; University Health Services; and University Recreation and Wellbeing.
