DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this role, you will be responsible for supervising the activities of Livestock Workers within the test barn, which includes both pre and post-detention tasks such as the collection and processing of blood and urine samples. You will also oversee the regular racing operations and maintain accurate records for horses that are eligible for treatment with medications addressing respiratory bleeding, ensuring compliance with the regulations set forth by the Harness Racing Commission. Conducting pre-race inspections of horses entering the paddock is another critical duty, as is addressing any disputes regarding the eligibility of horses for bleeder medications, which may involve monitoring endoscopic procedures for horses being added to the bleeder program. Your presence will be required in the paddock and at the finish line during each racing event to observe the horses before, during, and after the races. Additionally, you will be tasked with examining horses upon request from the judges and informing them of any horse that appears physically unfit to compete. In cases where a private veterinary practitioner is unavailable, you will need to administer emergency treatment. You will also oversee the proper disposal of infected horses and ensure the disinfection of the premises in accordance with legal requirements, including completing necropsy documentation as per established policies. Training other staff members on the use of various electronic and manual recording systems utilized by the agency will be part of your responsibilities, along with attending meetings and hearings as requested by the judges.
