The Communication Manager engages in internal/external communication projects to provide organization-wide strategy, planning, and delivery of communication initiatives in support of the Providence strategic priorities. The Communication Manager delivers consistent, clear messaging to all Providence audiences while collaborating to ensure alignment across geographic regions, multiple facilities, and diverse business units.

Please note the following important details regarding this position:



  • This role offers a hybrid work arrangement, combining in-office and remote work each week. The specific weekly schedule will be determined by the manager based on departmental requirements
  • You must reside within a daily commutable distance of up to 50 miles from our Eureka, California location
  • Flexibility to travel onsite to various hospital locations frequently, as defined by the manager and departmental needs
  • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends on an as-needed basis, as defined by the manager and departmental needs
  • Providence may offer relocation assistance.


Essential Functions:



  • Proven ability to work independently writing, creating, and implementing high-quality communication plans, messaging and copy that meets Providence standards
  • Oversees, manages, and measures effectiveness of key communication projects and initiatives, including employee/caregiver communication, executive communication, public relations media relations, issues/crisis management, thought leadership and social media/influencer strategies to promote and enhance the reputation of Providence and our family of organizations
  • Supports strategy, planning and execution for communication plans and programs, major organizational campaigns and initiatives related to public relations, reputation management, organizational communication, social media and executive communication
  • Supports and enhances the quality of all communication tools and channels to ensure communication is delivered consistently and proactively to all caregivers
  • Reinforces, enhances, and grows the organizational voice and narrative of Providence through consistent, proactive communication sharing. Reinforce and strengthen our identity as a Catholic Health Care ministry
  • Works closely with mission integration to ensure communications are reflective of our Catholic identity and our Mission, Vision, and Values. Provide ongoing strategic communication counsel and support
  • Works closely with communication leadership at the system and divisional level to coordinate messaging and positioning across audiences
  • Ensures alignment of organizational and division/ministry messaging and communication programs. Manage, monitor, and improve the delivery of information and messaging to caregivers and other audiences
  • Performs and manages to budget goals
  • Provides ongoing strategic communication feedback and support. Ensure alignment of organizational and region/ministry messaging and communication programs


Required qualifications:



  • Bachelor's Degree in Communication, Public Relations, Marketing, Business Administration, or another related field of study
  • 5 or more years of demonstrated management experience in broad-based and successful communication programs
  • Demonstrated experience managing communication programs and business relationships
  • Demonstrated experience working in highly matrixed and geographically dispersed organizations and teams
  • Demonstrated writing and editing experience
  • Demonstrated health care experience


Preferred qualifications:



  • Communication experience in health care
  • Experience in a faith-based health system/organization

The amounts listed are the base pay range; additional compensation may be available for this role, such as shift differentials, standby/on-call, overtime, premiums, extra shift incentives, or bonus opportunities.
