Estimate material and labor costs for repairs, replacements, and improvements. Serve as liaison with outside contractors and vendors of equipment and supplies. May be involved in office move coordination.
Avantor is looking for a dedicated Sr. Facilities & Maintenance Technician to join our Biopharma team, supporting building and equipment related maintenance in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. This role will be a full-time, 1st Shift position based out of our Devens, MA facility. You will have the opportunity to lend your technical skills within a dynamic production environment. - Education: High School Diploma or GED required; Technical School preferred
- Experience: 3 years applicable direct experience in a similar position
- Collaboration Tool: MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams)
- Applied maintenance experience in a GMP manufacturing environment
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Knowledge of basic HVAC systems required
- Experience working in an ISO Certified, FDA Regulated, or cGMP environment
- Industry experience with machine set-up fundamentals and solid troubleshooting skills
- Preferred Qualifications:
- 5+ years of experience
- Comprehensive understanding of maintenance, reliability, Mechanical Integrity, Quality Assurance, and Process Safety Management best practices
How you will thrive and create an impact
- Ensures operation of machinery and mechanical equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements on engines, motors, pneumatic equipment, and production machines.
- Following diagrams, sketches, operations manuals, manufacturer's instructions, and engineering specifications; troubleshooting malfunctions.
- Maintains equipment, parts, and supplies inventories by checking stock to determine inventory level.
- Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
- Maintains accurate history logs for all machines for use in identifying and diagnosing problems.
- Leads in troubleshooting, repairs and maintains electrical and electronic circuitry, hydraulic systems, plumbing, valving, filters, tanks, pumps, etc.
- Strives to improve machine performance, and to minimize downtime through prior planning and quick thorough machine repairs.
- Provides mechanical support for production personnel and the Facilities Department.
- Answer security alarm calls as needed.
- Respond and participate in an on call after hours rotation, including the use of a BMS system.
- Performs other duties as assigned and reports all findings of the job to the supervisor.

The employee is occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Required to stand and walk for a large part of the working day. Physical requirements include talking, hearing, bending/stooping, squatting, reaching above shoulder height, crouching, kneeling, balancing and pushing/pulling. Also requires some lifting/carrying/pushing or pulling up to 50 pounds with or without assistance. Use of both hands for repetitive actions such as grasping and manipulating. Specific vision abilities include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
