We are looking for a Chemistry student intern to join our team for a 10 to 12-week period lasting from June to early August. The internship requires 40 hours of on-site work per week.

The ideal candidate will have a chemistry background with courses in organic/physical/polymer chemistry. Knowledge of analytical techniques and testing methods would be an added plus. The candidate will be enrolled in an undergraduate degree program in Chemistry or Chemical engineering. Our paid internship provides an opportunity for students to gain practical experience in polymer synthesis and characterization, coatings formulation and testing, and train under experienced professionals with dozens of years of experience in this field. The intern will also have opportunity to present their work to the senior Benjamin Moore product development leadership.



Responsibilities

    Work hands-on in a lab environment in a safe manner wearing personal protective equipment and following safety protocols
  • Work with synthesis chemists to develop and engineer new latex polymers that deliver premium performance to paints
  • Characterize polymer physical properties by running analytical and physical testing equipment
  • Under the guidance of a paint formulator develop paint formulations and evaluate their physical and performance properties
  • Document polymer development and paint formulation processes
  • Participate in team meetings and present the research work


Qualifications

  • Pursuing a Chemistry or Chemical engineering degree or a related field in a undergraduate or graduate degree program
  • Preference would be given to students with background in organic/physical/polymer chemistry.
  • Familiar with analytical equipment such as GC/MS, DSC, particle size analyzer, and other physical test methods
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills including MS office software proficiency
