Surgery Scheduler, Float - Urology (Santa Monica)

Description

As a Surgery Scheduler, responsibilities include providing high quality front desk patient care support in department clinics. Duties include, but are not limited to, answering, screening and responding to patient phone calls, checking patients in/out, scheduling clinic appointments, confirming clinic appointments, assisting patients with scheduling diagnostic tests, preparing charts and documents for clinic visits, filing, assisting with obtaining insurance pre-certifications and referral authorizations, processing requests for medical records, medication refill requests, and assisting with processing disability and return-to-work forms for patients. You will travel and work at other Urology department clinics throughout the community as assigned by the supervisor for coverage. Other duties, as assigned.

Salary Range: $29.42 - $42.14 hourly

Qualifications Required:
  • Demonstrated basic knowledge of cancer treatment
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, particularly
    urology.
  • Demonstrated basic knowledge of cancer treatment
    General knowledge of third party
    insurances, government programs and other insurance agencies for
    purposes of assigning financial class codes and obtaining any necessary
    authorizations for treatment.
  • Ability to research medical diagnosis and procedure codes in CPT
    Code book and ICD-9_CM code book.
  • Demonstrated computer skills including
    word-processing, use of spreadsheets and data entry
  • Ability to understand and correctly use
    technical terminology, correctly identify andextract data from hospital
    records, enter data on flow sheets or in computer and maintainstudy
    records
  • Ability to communicate effectively with medical, nursing and administrative personnel, regulatory agencies and study sponsors, both verbally and via written reports and memos
  • Knowledge of University's Electronic Medical Record System
  • Skill and experience in composing clear and understandable written memos and reports using correct grammar
  • Skill in prioritizing assignments to complete work in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Knowledge of UCLA School of Medicine and hospital nursing processes.
  • Skill in communicating with patients, families and referring physicians with diplomacy.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with physicians, residents, research associates, fellows, students and staff, as well as outside granting agencies.
  • Superior typing skills to prepare correspondence, reports and other written materials with speed and accuracy
  • Skill in prioritizing assignments to complete work in a timely manner when there are changes in workload and assignments, pressures of deadlines, and/or a heavy workload.
  • Ability to work flexible hours and travel to department clinics, as assigned.
Preferred:
  • Fluent in Spanish
  • Bachelor's degree
