Job Title: Electrical Trades I Apprentice

Position: # 636160 - Requisition: #36413




Job Summary:



The responsibilities of this position include attending electrical apprentice trade school and maintaining adequate attendance as well as a 2.5 GPA. This full-time, state-classified Electrical Technician Trainee position will learn to become familiar with various systems and their components to ensure the availability and distribution of electrical power to the CU Denver campuses, for use by, but not limited to the following systems: energy management (EMCS), lighting, power for telecommunications, computer network, and a multitude of other power applications. Inspects, repairs, and performs preventive maintenance on electrical systems. Apprentices must register with DORA as an individual. You must register an account (name, SSN, address, etc.) with Dora. If you have ever been registered as an apprentice before, provide the apprentice number to your supervisor. Do not create another account in the DORA system. Apprentices are given one number to carry until they pass an exam for another license.

Key Responsibilities:

Assist with installing various kinds of raceways, wiring, boxes, supports, fastening devices, lighting fixtures, electrical panels, receptacles, switches, fuse-holders, relays, HVAC controls, and other devices.

Assists with preventive maintenance on assigned installed equipment, logs, and reports as required. Operates university vehicles to transport necessary tools/equipment to work sites across campus.

Assists with diagnosing and repairing malfunctions in existing electrical systems and apparatus. Integrates new apparatus into existing systems to achieve maximum continuity of service.

Participate and assist in emergencies based on their magnitude and nature. Support various special events both in preparation and during the event. Examples of emergencies and special events could include commencement, snow removal, power outage, flood, etc. May be assigned other duties as required.



Work Location:



Onsite - this role is expected to work onsite and is located in Aurora, Colorado at the Anschutz Medical Campus.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:



  • Must have two years of experience performing maintenance, general maintenance, or working on different types of building systems.


Substitution:



  • Satisfactory completion of a formalized electrician apprenticeship will substitute for the required experience. Appropriate education will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.


Colorado law requires that candidates for state government jobs be residents of Colorado at the time of application.

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:



  • Experience in electrical or electronics maintenance.

Conditions of Employment:



  • Must attend electrical apprentice trade school and maintain adequate attendance as well as a 2.5 GPA.
  • Must possess and maintain a current, valid State of Colorado Driver's License.
  • Must be willing and able to pass a criminal background check, motor vehicle checks, and drug test.

  • Must be willing and able to work in areas where you may be exposed to hazardous chemicals or infectious materials.
  • Must be willing and able to operate moving equipment and work around machinery or moving equipment.
  • Must be willing and able to work around noise/vibrations.
  • Must be willing and able to work alone, above ground, and in small confined spaces.
  • Must be willing and able to walk on uneven surfaces and climb on scaffolds/ladders.
  • Must be willing and able to work straight or rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays.


NOTE: This position has been designated as essential personnel, "Subject to call 24 hours per day, seven days per week" and may be required to carry a pager. Position may also be required to "Stay over late" or "Come in early" to "Cover" shifts, as needed, and may be required to respond to any emergencies as needed. Anticipated Pay Range:



The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as

$4,154 - $4,570 per month

This position is eligible for overtime compensation.

The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
