Position Description:
Supervise and independently perform studies to advance the goals of the principal investigator's research projects. Develop machine learning algorithm, analyze next generation sequencing (NGS) data and compile results and monitor quality control processes to ensure integrity of research.
Primary Functions
- Develop new algorithms and software tools for the identification of 3D chromatin regulatory networks.
- Develop machine learning algorithms for identification of epigenetic-regulated splicing variants.
- Ensure to be familiar with NGS, such as bulk/single-cell Hi-C, bulk/single-cell ATAC-seq, bulk/single-cell RNA-seq.
- Ensure to be familiar with long read Oxford Nanopore Technologies (ONT)
- Collaborate with principal investigators in determining study design and performing data analyses.
- Work cooperatively with other lab members and outside collaborators.
- Participates in meetings with principal investigator and research staff and evaluate/interpret the validity of data, develop methodologies, evaluate lab procedures.
- Attend academic conferences across the world and regularly read scientific journals.
- Promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices.
- Supervises junior research associates, graduate students, and student workers in the laboratory.
Knowledge - Skills - Abilities
- Proficiency in programming, ideally in C/C++ as well as in scripting languages such as perl/python, or R.
- Being comfortable in a linux environment, with large data sets, computer clusters, and database software.
- Knowledge of various genomic technological developments in area of expertise.
- Knowledge of scientific research principles, practices, and protocols.
- Ability to design, organize, and coordinate scientific research projects.
- Ability to develop and follow research methodology and protocol.
- Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures.
- Ability to work independently, problem-solving skills when carrying out data analyses.
- Good time management and organization skills.
- Strong communication skills for writing papers, reports, and for giving presentations.
