Required Qualifications: Per Civil Service Standards and Specifications. Must have taken and passed the specific job related Civil Service Exam and be reachable on the appropriate Civil Service list. 70.1 Transfers are encouraged to apply. 70.1 Transfer Candidates must have been appointed from a Civil Service List and have served permanently in an appropriate title(s) for one year. Transfers must be within two salary grades. Must have a current Security Guard Photo ID issued by the New York State Department of State. If you do not currently have a NYS Security Guard Photo ID, you must obtain the required NYS Security Guard Photo ID within 90 days of your official start date to retain employment. Must be able to perform mandatory overtime. Must have, keep and maintain the appropriate valid NYS Driver's License; have a motor vehicle record which is free from major violations or a pattern of repeat violations. Non Competitive NY Helps Appointment* One year of full time experience as a Police or Peace Officer; OR one year of full time experience as a dispatcher for a public safety agency including fire departments, emergency medical services, or law enforcement; OR one year of active service and an Honorable Discharge from the United States military, where you served as a dispatcher or military police/security personnel OR 30 semester college credit hours from an accredited school. Brief Description of Duties: The University Police Communications & Security Specialist 1 is the 911 Emergency Operator and Dispatcher for the University, Hospital, and Long Island State Veterans Home. They act as an intermediary with Suffolk Police and EMS as well as maintains contact with various Fire Departments.
Special Notes: This is a full-time position, 40 hours per week, shift and pass days varied. Night and weekend work required. FLSA Nonexempt position, eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Internal and external search to occur simultaneously. Mandatory rehire roster candidates have preference. SG 10 Hiring Rate $48,014, Job Rate $59,234. This position includes location pay of $2,195, annually and Facility Security Pay of $1,050, annually. The selected candidate must successfully clear a background investigation. This position may be designated 55 b/c and is subject to verification of applicant eligibility. *This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS). For the duration of the NY HELPS Program, this title may be filled via a non-competitive appointment, which means no examination is required but all candidates must meet the minimum qualifications of the title for which they apply. At a future date, it is expected employees hired under NY HELPS will have their non-competitive employment status converted to competitive status, without having to compete in an examination. Employees will then be afforded with all of the same rights and privileges of competitive class employees of New York State. While serving permanently in an NY HELPS title, employees may take part in any promotion examination for which they are qualified. Essential Position: This has been designated as an essential position based on the duties of the job and the functions performed.
