A Brief Overview

The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia Foundation raises philanthropic funds to advance CHOP's mission and vision. The Foundation is hiring a Clinical Annual Giving Officer to develop and maintain philanthropic relationships with donors and prospects to support the Cardiac Center. The primary responsibility of this role is to qualify prospective donors and solicit donations from individuals who have the capacity to give $1,500 or more annually to CHOP, raising four- and five-figure gifts with the long-term goal of developing a pipeline of donors for potential major and planned gifts in sustained support for CHOP. This position reports to a Director of Development, Cardiac Center on the Foundation's Individual Giving team.

Although experience in complex medical and healthcare organizations is preferred, individuals with experience/transferable skills from related fields are welcome to apply. Reporting Structure: This position reports to the Director of Development, Cardiac Center.

Schedule: Hybrid with weekly expectation to be on-site for meetings. You are required to be located within a commutable distance to our Philadelphia campus.

What you will do

  • Serve as a frontline fundraiser for the Cardiac Center to secure philanthropic support from patient families and others who are inspired by CHOP's mission.
  • Design and implement cultivation and stewardship activities leading up to those solicitations.
  • Identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward annual gifts from prospects/donors/patients treated at CHOP.
  • Maintain a portfolio of 150 donors and prospects who have the capacity to make four- and five-figure gifts to support the Cardiac Center, meeting annual fundraising goals. This position is expected to raise approximately $500K annually in gifts and pledges.
  • Work entrepreneurially to identify prospects and cultivate new relationships on behalf of CHOP. Develop and implement strategies for donor cultivation, engagement, solicitation, and stewardship in collaboration with Foundation colleagues.
  • Conduct a minimum of 120 visits yearly, 40-50 being annual giving solicitations via phone, virtual, or in-person meetings, with a primary focus on four- and five-figure solicitations.
  • Engage CHOP faculty and staff, board members, senior leadership, and others within the process as needed.
  • Collaborate with Individual Giving, Institutional Events and Fundraising, and colleagues across the Foundation to develop a long-term pipeline for annual to major gifts to support the donor continuum.
  • Maintain constituent records in the Foundation's constituent relationship management system.
  • Personally acknowledge gifts from assigned donors and coordinate additional acknowledgements.
  • Assist the entire department on reaching financial goals, which will require occasional nights and weekends.

Education Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree Required

Experience Qualifications

  • At least three (3) years experience in development, sales, or related field Required
  • Fundraising experience in university or academic medicine Preferred
  • Fundraising experience in healthcare preferred

Skills and Abilities

  • Working knowledge of computers including Microsoft Office a requirement.
  • Knowledge of SalesForce preferred.
  • A sincere appreciation for people and how they are each uniquely motivated.
  • Poised and engaging, empathetic communications style based on natural warmth and enthusiasm.
  • Fast-paced and results oriented with the ability to work in a timely manner with multiple deadlines and competing requirements.
  • Strong written, presentation, verbal, organizational, and interpersonal skills; demonstrated ability to relate well to individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Demonstration of good judgement, professionalism and the highest standards of ethical conduct.
