Responsibilities

We are seeking a Spacecraft Communications RF Equipment Technician to join our team at the Fort Irwin Complex in California to support our Space Communications Network Services Contract (DSN) with NASA.

Under minimal supervision the RF technician will test, maintain and modify GDSCC Tracking Station equipment related to RF and microwave sub-systems. Such equipment includes, but is not limited to, transmitter, receiving and cryogenic microwave devices.

The Deep Space Network is NASA's international array of giant radio antennas that supports interplanetary spacecraft missions, plus a few that orbit Earth. The DSN also provides radar and radio astronomy observations that improve our understanding of the solar system and the larger universe. The antennas of the Deep Space Network are the indispensable link to explorers venturing beyond the moon. They provide the crucial connection for commanding our spacecraft and receiving their never before seen images and scientific information on Earth, propelling our understanding of the universe, our solar system and ultimately, our place within it.

Responsibilities

    Implementing Engineering Change Orders (ECOs);
  • Providing problem resolution of issues through the use of advanced technical knowledge.
  • Troubleshoot and repair of failures using sub-system documentation, drawings and schematics.
  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance actions to ensure subsystem operation and performance within required standards.
  • Use state-of-the-art-test equipment and common hand and power tools.
  • Provide technical guidance to lower level positions as required.
  • Perform all duties consistent with this classification as assigned.
  • Maintain a healthy and productive work environment.


Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • BS 0-2 Years or HS 6-8
  • Knowledgeable understanding of motors, pumps, and water regulated systems.
  • You have two years of experience as an Electronic/Electro-mechanical, Linux Computer, PLC Controls, maintenance technician or IT Technician.
  • You can lift up to 50lbs.
  • You can climb antenna's up to 250ft. for antenna maintenance.
  • Must have a valid California driver's license.
  • Clearance - must be able to obtain a trusted background check and pass a National Criminal Information Check (NCIC). In order to obtain a clearance, you need to be a US Citizen and show proof of citizenship.
  • Must be capable of recognizing potential hazards and follow all safety equipment procedures
  • Must be able to follow applicable regulatory agency and site-specific guidelines and to properly document all job-related activities.

Desired Qualifications

  • Have an AS degree in Electronics or Military Electronic schooling and experience.
  • 4+ years' directly related experience with high and low power transmitter and/or receiving systems including uWave systems.
  • Can demonstrate high motivation and a great team attitude.
  • Have the ability and desire to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Capable of working independently, requiring assistance in the resolution of only the most difficult technical problems.
  • The ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.

Security Clearance

This position requires the candidate to be able to obtain a trusted background check and pass a National Criminal Information Check (NCIC). In order to obtain a clearance, you need to be a US Citizen and show proof of citizenship.

Target Salary Range

The rate / range per hour below represents the typical pay for this position based on experience and other factors.
