THE POSITION

Are you detail-oriented with a passion for public service? The Pennsylvania State Police is seeking a skilled Fingerprint Technician to join our team. In this challenging and rewarding role, you will perform complex technical tasks involving the analysis, classification, and identification of fingerprints, both manually and electronically. If you are ready to contribute your expertise and take the next step in a fulfilling public service career, we encourage you to apply for this exciting opportunity.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this position, you will utilize the Integra automated fingerprint identification system (AFIS) to process fingerprint submissions from criminal justice agencies and vendors, received via live scan or card scan. Your responsibilities will include analyzing fingerprint submissions for proper sequencing; classifying, identifying, and assigning primary and reference pattern types; and setting core and axis. You will also enter descriptive and image data and perform identity determinations by comparing side-by-side images (search print vs. file print) to confirm positive or non-positive identification. This may lead to updates of existing records or the creation of new records within both the central repository and Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) files. Additionally, you will review Pennsylvania and FBI fingerprint and criminal history files to identify and correct incomplete or inaccurate information. In addition, your responsibilities will include registering, consolidating, querying, and updating both criminal and applicant records. You will also review all submitted prints for legibility, sequencing errors, and required demographic data before filing or processing them electronically through the Integra AFIS.
