Respiratory Specialist (Shift Lead)

We are seeking an experienced Respiratory Specialist (RS) to join our team. Reporting to the Director of Respiratory Care Services, the RS provides advanced clinical support and oversees shift operations to ensure high-quality, safe respiratory care.

Key Responsibilities:




  • Lead shift operations: assign tasks, resolve challenges, and ensure smooth workflow.
  • Provide direct care, focusing on high-acuity patients and specialized respiratory procedures.
  • Maintain competencies across all age groups and respiratory care teams (NICU, pediatric, adult, long-term care).
  • Perform advanced diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
  • Act as a bedside educator and support training for staff, students, and interdisciplinary teams.
  • Collaborate with leadership to optimize care delivery and participate in hospital initiatives.

  • Ability to manage high-risk, low-volume therapies and complex patient needs.
  • Effective communicator and problem-solver in dynamic healthcare environments.

Education/Experience:

Bachelor's degree in respiratory therapy or closely related field required. Must be a graduate of an AMA approved school of Respiratory Therapy. Must have current AHA Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), and Neonatal Resuscitation Provider (NRP) certification and remain current during employment. PALs certification highly preferred. Obtains Fundamental of Critical Care Support (FCCS) certification within first year of hire.

Minimum of five years full time respiratory work experience, including 1 year comprehensive neonatal ICU experience. Demonstrated active professional engagement, service excellence, leadership skills, and evidence of excellent clinical assessment skills in all age populations.

Licensure/Certification:

Registration by the National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC) as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) is required. Must have and maintain an active Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) license by the Maryland State Board of Physicians. Must have and maintain American Association of Respiratory Care (AARC) membership.

Knowledge:

Work requires analytical skills to resolve problems that require the use of advanced scientific, mathematical, or technical principles. Has knowledge of the principles of growth and development of the life span and have the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's clinical status and interpret information relative to the patient's conditions and age-specific needs.

Work requires effective communication and interpersonal skills, education skills, dependability, and proactive initiative. Must demonstrate effective communication, orally and in writing; demonstrate empathy and calmness in stressful situations, and ability to collaborate with interdisciplinary teams. Requires courtesy and tact when dealing with patients, visitors and medical center employees; and may participate in sensitive situations.

Work requires excellent computer skills and Microsoft software applications i.e. Word, Excel, Power Point

Salary Range: Minimum 38.41 per hour - Maximum 63.42 per hour. Compensation will be commensurate with equity and experience for roles of similar scope and responsibility.

In cases where the range is displayed as a $0 amount, salary discussions will occur during candidate screening calls, before any subsequent compensation discussion is held between the candidate and any hiring authority.
