Job Overview:

The Radiology Support Associate provides hands-on assistance in running the day-to-day non-technical operation for the radiology department under the direction from department leadership. This includes support in radiology reception and the radiology reading room. Coordinates all imaging transactions related to the processing of exam orders, electronic image files and report distribution. Answers telephones, routes callers and provides routine information to callers, performs a variety of clerical tasks.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent

Preferred:

  • Prior healthcare experience preferred, preferably within the radiology field
  • Proficient with creating and manipulating Microsoft Office suite including Word and Excel.
  • Typing skills, office routine familiarity, and strong knowledge of medical and radiology terminology strongly preferred

  • Evening Shift
  • Full-Time

Essential Functions:

  • Reception Responsibilities:
    • Greets and processes patients checking in for radiology imaging
    • Inputs patient information into hospital information systems
    • Enters orders as prescribed by physician
    • Rounds on patients in waiting area and provides updates on duration
    • Answers inquiries by staff, patients, physicians and visitors and directs them appropriately
  • Reading Room Responsibilities:
    • Answers incoming telephone calls and routes calls appropriately
    • Facilitates physician to physician communication
    • Places calls and pages for radiologists and radiology residents
    • Assists staff physicians and radiologists by locating and retrieving patient images and reports both internally and externally
    • Assists radiologist with patient call backs, critical result reporting, and other tasks to facilitate reporting
    • Perform quality checks on exams in the Patient Archiving Communication System (PACS)
    • Monitor lists in PACS in order to facilitate report distribution
    • Troubleshoot issues on radiologists workstations and open IT tickets
  • Competent in the use of RIS & PACS system and other IT programs:
    • Burn CDs
    • Fax radiology reports
    • Import external imaging
    • Answer routine questions from staff physicians and radiologists
    • Perform quality control on patient demographic information
    • Support staff during system downtimes
    • PACS Superusers- fix-up, delete, and split studies
    • Assists PACS Coordinator as needed.
