JOB TITLE:

Director of Business Operations, Provost's Office

JOB PURPOSE:

Manage and direct the operational, financial and personnel functions of a subdivision. Responsible for the functional supervision of all Subdivision staff with budget planning, development, and personnel management. Manage all aspects of budget planning, forecasting, development, management, and control for the Subdivision. Manage the staff, supervise, and direct the workflow in the Provost's Office. Provide administrative support and assistance to the Provosts and Vice Provosts of the Subdivision.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Responsible for providing policy-level advice and recommendations to the Provost and Vice Provosts. Prepare or supervise the preparation of complex financial reports; perform complex accounting functions; participate in meetings concerning financial aspects of a designated area.
  • Train, monitor, evaluate or correct the day-to-day financial/personnel operations of subdivision staff. Is the source of definitive authority for all day-to-day budget, operational and personnel operations in the Subdivision. Conduct special fiscal studies; analyze data and make financial projections; determine needs and make recommendations for fiscal and human resource management.
  • Recruit (as needed), train, lead, supervise and evaluate support staff; assign and monitor their duties. Work closely with Human Resources, employees, supervisors, and academic administrators.
  • Review and recommend action to the Provost and Vice Provost for Academic Personnel on personnel, staff position vacancies, and employment matters. Monitor budget compliance against unit allocations and when necessary, enforce compliance with subdivision policies and practices.

Maintain thorough knowledge of government, University and specialized regulations and policies, which impact personnel and fiscal affairs of the designated area; provide and apply interpretation of regulations and policies.
  • Ensure compliance with and participate in the development, implementation, and maintenance of departmental policies, objectives, and procedures. Provide oversight and ensure compliance with university purchasing and financial policies in the procurement and contracting of project related services.
  • Work closely with the Provost to enhance services and improve spaces. Work with University Operations on projects, maintenance, or improvements with building to address access and safety related actions. Oversee maintenance agreements, repairs, and replacement of inventory/ equipment/furniture. Act as property admin for the department/subdivision. Work closely with IT for technology needs.
  • Other duties as assigned.

REMOTE WORK ELIGIBILITY:

This position provides vital support to campus customers and requires the successful candidate be available to work on campus.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • EDUCATION: Bachelor's degree
  • EXPERIENCE: Minimum of 7 years of direct work-related experience

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Experience with cloud-based business software, Oracle
  • Microsoft Excel proficiency
  • Experience with Human Resources policy and regulations
  • Degree in finance, accounting, or business administration
  • Knowledge of budget planning and financial analysis for higher education institutions
