Overview
As the Audit Chief you will have the exciting opportunity to perform complex and comprehensive post award audits to ensure compliance with state and federal requirements for the Vermont Agency of Transportation (AOT). The Chief will train and lead a team of audit specialists to oversee and strengthen internal controls, direct and support internal and external audits, ensure compliance of the contract terms of professional consultants, and review and approve indirect cost charges to the agency from professional consultants under contract. Additionally, the position has full responsibility for interpreting, organizing, executing, and completing assignments in accordance with state and federal guidelines and accepted audit practices, as well as for developing and attaining section objectives which are compatible with the policies and objectives of the Agency. By assessing risk, the Audit Chief determines the nature of audit assignments and where the efforts of staff must be focused. Collaboration with and requests from leadership and other managers lead to investigations of regulatory compliance in many different areas of the Agency and often results in policy recommendations. Duties are performed in an office setting or in the field. Significant pressure from deadlines is present. Significant travel may be necessary and incumbent should have a private means of transportation available. Some evening or overtime work may be required. Some audit situations may assume an adversarial nature, requiring significant tact and persistence to complete the audit in a successful manner. Minimum Qualifications
Master's degree or higher in accounting, auditing, finance or related field of study AND one (1) year or more of professional accounting or auditing experience. Special Requirements
