Inpatient Gynecology Certified Nurse Midwife
Shift: Full-Time (40 hours)
Schedule: Days (NO weekends, holidays, nights, call)

We are seeking a certified nurse midwife to join our Gynecology team to advance the care of our gynecologic patients and work to support our gynecologic surgeons. Summary
The Division of Gynecology and Obstetrics at The Johns Hopkins Hospital is seeking an Advance Practice Provider (APP) to collaborate within a multidisciplinary health team, delivering comprehensive gynecologic care to inpatient populations. In this role, the provider will manage inpatient gynecologic patients, see inpatient consultations, and hold outpatient clinic. Responsibilities encompass establishing medical diagnoses, performing diagnostic studies, performing therapeutic procedures, and providing follow-up care. Physical examinations, including pelvic exams, will be conducted, along with other relevant procedures. The provider will maintain accurate documentation. Accountability for time management, professional relationships, and interpersonal interactions is integral. Participation in continuing education programs, committee involvement, and adherence to hospital policies and procedures are expected. Responsibilities
- Appropriately orders, performs, and accurately interprets diagnostic tests and procedures for adolescent and adult gynecology patients within prescribed protocols and policies.
- Utilizing data obtained from history, physical examination, laboratory tests, and diagnostic procedures, develops and implements individualized care plan with patient/family based on diagnosis, patient care/age-specific needs and patient outcomes.
- Prescribes and treats health needs of patients. Evaluates pharmacotherapeutic and non-pharmacological regimens and prescribes appropriately as authorized.
- Performs consultations by obtaining a history, performing physical exam, interpreting laboratory and radiographic reports, and forming an assessment and plan of care for all assigned adolescent and adult female patients. Staffs consultations with the attending physician in a timely fashion.
- Effectively communicates, coordinates, and collaborates in the implementation of plans of care with the nursing staff.
- Accurately evaluates the effectiveness of the plan of care and in conjunction with the appropriate supervising physician, may alter the plan.
- Effectively communicates with adolescent and adult patients, enabling them to make informed decisions regarding their care.
- Reviews charts and elicits information necessary for ongoing patient monitoring, screening, treatment, education and counseling.
- Maintains appropriate patient records. Documents treatment plans, historical and physical findings, consults, teaching and counseling in compliance with hospital and clinical standards.
- Coordinates care in an outpatient clinical setting; sees a wide variety of patients from routine gynecologic annual care to more complex gynecologic needs.
- Cares for gynecologic patients seeking well-woman care, problem-focused gynecologic care (including abnormal bleeding, vaginal discharge, pelvic pain, contraception, menopause, urinary tract infection, vaginitis, sexually transmitted infections, etc.)
- Initiates contraception for patients (intrauterine device insertion and removals, oral contraceptive pills, Depo-Provera, etc.)
- No obstetrical care beyond pregnancy diagnosis and early management is included in this position.
- Comfortable with basic surgical techniques and patient care; surgical experience preferred. Interested in learning advanced concepts in acute perioperative and postoperative management.
- Practices in accordance with the standards for practice defined by the International Confederation of Midwives (ICM) and the American College of Nurse-Midwives (ACNM).
- Works independently and in collaboration with attending physicians, resident physicians, and other advanced practice providers.
- Facilitates and actively participates in departmental meetings, continuing medical education programs, research, publication, and quality improvement projects.
- Performs related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Self-motivated individual who is adaptable, a quick learner, and is confident working independently.
- Master's degree in nursing or related field.
- Current Maryland license in good standing as a certified nurse midwife.
- Certified by the appropriate licensing board.
- Less than one-year applicable experience required, 1-3 years preferred.
- NPI number, DEA, and CDS required.
- BLS, ACLS required.
