JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The Mitchell Lab in the Department of Entomology is recruiting undergraduate researchers to assist in gene discovery and genome annotation in insects as part of a broader NSF-funded study on insect evolution.The primary job responsibility will be the description and analysis of insect chemoreceptor genes, with opportunities to assist with molecular techniques and field collection of insects.Relevant job training will be provided; students will gain familiarity with major bioinformatics software packages and develop a working knowledge of genome biology and related sciences such as molecular biology, computer science, and phylogenetics.Preference given to students who have completed coursework involving genetics or genomics or with similar prior experience.Houly pay starts at $15/hour with work hours negotiable, but anticipated 10 hours/week during the semester and 20 hours/week during the summer.Contact Dr. Robert Mitchell (rfmitchell@psu.edu) for more details.
