The Senior Sustainability Analyst will provide sustainable consulting and certification services on a variety of projects related to the built environment. Responsibilities include energy and environmental analysis for planning, architecture, interiors and consulting projects that may result in third party sustainable certification. As a sustainable design expert, the Sustainable Consultant will contribute to marketing pursuits, technical project reviews, narrative writing and staff education. Thought Leadership and Public outreach within the design and sustainable industry is required. This includes speaking at conferences, publishing papers, and involvement in strategic industry professional organizations.

Project Facilitation and Leadership



  • Initiate Sustainable Design analysis, conceptual Energy Modeling, Sustainable consulting management, LEED Project Administration and Support compliance reporting.
  • Serve as a client liaison for the HDR project team in an active and contributing role throughout the life of the project. Maintains an ongoing client relationship, post occupancy.
  • Consult with multiple internal design teams on LEED and sustainable projects.
  • Assist clients, engineers and contractors with sustainable design implementation.
  • Guide and advise design teams on projects, providing sustainable design input to ensure consistent and high-quality design throughout the studio. Support technical and sustainable design reviews of in-house projects.
  • Assist in the preparation and delivery of sustainable design presentations to clients and drive consultant work to achieve design goals.
  • Support consulting with exterior clients on building and non-building projects and collaborating on firm wide sustainable design and consulting projects. Support implement office green operations plan\ Responsible for following fee and workload projections for assigned projects.


Business Development and Thought Leadership



  • Responsible for the supporting the execution of the regional business unit plan
  • Participate in developing the annual business plan for the regional practice.
  • Participate in selected marketing and business development opportunities in the region. Acts as key presenter in new project interviews.
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with regional HDR team members, consultants, contractors and community stakeholders resulting in increased business opportunities.
  • Assist Marketing Department in development of marketing campaigns, materials, webinars, etc. and overall proposal preparation.
  • Assists in preparation of award submittals. Regional sustainable business plan must target at least (1) strategic award per year.
  • Participates in local or state professional associations. Maintains active membership on at least (1) strategic board or committee for an appropriate industry organization.
  • Attends conferences valued by clients as appropriate and presents when possible


Staff Education and Development



  • Serves as mentor/advisor to sustainability and other regional staff.
  • Supports diversity and develops continuing education opportunities (e.g. site visits, lectures, road trips) to expose design staff to influences which will stimulate design creativity and innovation
  • Support sustainable design education program and LEED AP credential maintenance efforts within home office
  • Encourages staff exploration and innovation to achieve project design excellence and continual improvement.


Liaison with Architecture Energy Services Group



  • Monthly project and check-in meeting with the Director of High Performance Design in Architecture
  • Participate in monthly calls with the parametric analysis group to enhance HDR internal modeling tools for project teams.
  • Active participation in the "Energy Analysis Group" list serve
  • Attends virtual energy modeling training sessions on appropriate topics throughout the year #LI-JF1

Preferred Qualifications

  • Active tracking for Registered Architect or Professional Engineer licensure
  • Proficiency in HDR work plan tools
  • Proficiency in Newforma
  • Knowledge of Revit, AutoCAD and SketchUp
  • LEED Accredited Professional
  • Envision Certified Professional

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Engineering, Interior Design, Planning or closely related field
  • A minimum of 6 years of architecture, interior design, planning or engineering experience with a minimum of 5 years in sustainable design experience
  • Knowledge of Building Information Modeling (BIM) and Integrated Project* Delivery (IDP) - This will be required for positions with associated responsibility
  • Advanced knowledge in certification standards (LEED, BREEM, LBC, etc) and application to Federal, Healthcare and Science and Technology projects*
  • Demonstrated ability to work on multiple projects annually, execute project work plans and deliverables assigned to them
  • Proven ability to prioritize oneself and the work of others in order to meet deadlines and provide high-quality service to clients
  • Self-starter with the ability to act in a proactive manner to execute job responsibilities
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
  • Excellent writing, grammar, punctuation, spelling and proofreading skills
  • Energetic, outgoing personality to inspire project teams Ability to work unscheduled overtime as needed
  • Some travel will be necessary
  • Proficiency in the basic technical skills of the following computer skills: Basic knowledge of HDR Work Plan; Intermediate knowledge of Newforma (InDesign, Illustrator)
  • Experience with early energy and daylight modeling software: Equest, Energy Plus, Climate Consultant, DIVA, Radiance, DAYSIM, Sefaira, etc
  • Thorough knowledge of sustainability, building science, integrated design and LEED guidelines*
  • Advanced knowledge of sustainability trends, construction methodology, materials application and manufacturer-supplier relationships
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must

The expected compensation range for this position is $ 75,000 - $130,000 and depends upon skills, experience, education, and geographical location. (Stated benefits are for full-time regular positions. Temporary and part-time roles eligible for limited benefits.)
