Job Title: Controller - Non Profit Job Overview:
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Controller to join our dynamic team, with a focus on driving cost savings and operational efficiency within a nonprofit organization in the senior living industry. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of nonprofit financial management, as well as significant experience in the senior living sector. This individual will be responsible for overseeing financial operations, identifying cost-saving opportunities, ensuring financial compliance, and implementing strategies that enhance operational performance across our organization. Key Responsibilities:
  • Financial Management & Reporting:
    • Oversee day-to-day financial operations, including budgeting, forecasting, and reporting.
    • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, ensuring accuracy and compliance with nonprofit accounting standards.
    • Develop and maintain financial controls, processes, and policies to safeguard assets and ensure operational efficiency.
    • Produce financial reports that reflect the financial health of the organization and provide insights to leadership for decision-making.
  • Cost Savings & Operational Efficiency:
    • Identify and implement cost-saving strategies across departments to maximize financial resources.
    • Analyze operational data to recommend process improvements and optimize financial and operational performance.
    • Work closely with department heads to identify areas of inefficiency, redundancy, and potential cost-cutting opportunities.
    • Monitor performance metrics and provide actionable recommendations to enhance operational workflows and reduce unnecessary expenditures.
  • Budgeting & Forecasting:
    • Lead the annual budgeting process, working collaboratively with leadership teams to set realistic and impactful financial goals.
    • Monitor budget adherence and analyze variances to proactively adjust forecasts and budgets.
    • Develop and execute financial forecasting models, considering both short-term operational needs and long-term strategic goals.
  • Internal Controls & Compliance:
    • Ensure adherence to all relevant nonprofit accounting standards, government regulations, and industry best practices.
    • Lead the internal audit process, working with external auditors to ensure timely and thorough audits.
    • Ensure compliance with financial reporting requirements specific to the senior living and nonprofit sectors.
  • Team Leadership & Collaboration:
    • Supervise and mentor accounting and finance team members, fostering a collaborative, efficient, and results-driven environment.
    • Work closely with senior leadership to provide financial insights that support strategic planning, growth, and resource allocation.
    • Collaborate with department heads to implement and track cost-saving initiatives and operational improvements.
Qualifications:
  • Education:
    • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field.
    • CPA or CMA certification preferred.
  • Experience:
    • Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in accounting or finance roles, with at least 3 years in a nonprofit environment.
    • Strong understanding of senior living industry financials, regulations, and operations.
    • Proven track record of driving cost savings and enhancing operational efficiency in previous roles.
    • Experience with budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting in a nonprofit and senior living setting.
  • Skills & Competencies:
    • Advanced knowledge of nonprofit accounting principles and standards (e.g., GAAP, FASB).
    • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and financial modeling skills.
    • Proficient in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage, or similar) and Microsoft Excel.
    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to present complex financial information to non-financial stakeholders.
    • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.

  • the individual's skill sets, experience and training;
  • licensure and certification requirements;
